I tried that, and it's a little bit faster, but still takes forever.
If I look at Kai's video,  it takes seconde with a 1080 card.
I cannot get it that fast as in the video..

I almost want to ask for  project  or how someone else has all the setting for iclone and iray.

The logs seem to show you are previewing in 'Photoreal' mode -- that will definitely take longer.  Try changing the mode to 'Interactive' and see if it improves.

ok made another test, just in case
Can you tell me if in the 1st part the GPU is not used again?
I made 3 sections
1= GPU+ CPU
2 = GPU
3= GPU + CPU  with Iclone Added to the control panel from Nvidia under Manage 3D settings.
I didn't see any improvement, but looks like the log is different.

Installed the 411.70 driver, and no difference..

The only other thing I can think of is your texture compression. Is it set to "none"? Me, I have it on medium. Also check how big the texture sizes you allow in your project settings. Other than that, I don't have a clue.

I tried Max / Medium  None.
Tried   2048 x 2048,   1024x1024,   512x512
It makes all no difference.
I just commented to another post (see above)   that might explain why it's not working for me.

The key thing I'm seeing in the log you shared (thank you) is:
1.0   IRAY   rend warn : There is no CUDA-capable GPU available to the iray photoreal renderer.
1.0   IRT    rend info : Resource assignment for host 0 has changed.
1.0   IRAY   rend info : CUDA device 0 (GeForce GTX 1070): compute capability 6.1, 8 GiB total, 5.88661 GiB available, display attached
1.0   IRAY   rend info : iray photoreal CPU fallback is enabled.

It seems to confirm my suspicion that you're rendering on your CPU.
Now the question is, "Why?"  I don't know, yet.

There is probably an Nvidia setting somewhere that can enable your GTX 1070 for Iray, or make it the default, or something like that.  I'm not sure where exactly that is.

I totally missed this post.
That is a good question,  I do see the GPU running up to 7.5 Gb.  but the logs tells me otherwise.
Maybe a staf Member can answer this one.

I checked the settings, and I don't see anything.
Are there other 1070 users out there?   I know Kai used a 1080..  Maybe he knows,  if he is watching this :)

I did notice that even if your done with a preview and close it,  it doesn't free up the GPU memory.
I start out with 4.5 Gb  and when doing is 2-3 times, it's at 7.5 Gb.
Even closing the preview doesn't release the memory. or whatever.
Played with all the settings, and the only one that makes somewhat a difference is when I change the preview screen size to 320x240 and zoom in.
The default 1000 x something,  is making is slow..   even 640x480 preview is slow.

How does the smartcache work?  do you need to enable something, since I don't see a difference.
Then I still have the fact, that once it's done, and I zoom in or move the camera, it's still take a long time before I can move again.. there is a huge deley between the movement
and the preview starts doing something.

I've got the GTX 1080 t1 using the Nvidia 411.70 driver. It worked fast. I upgraded the driver to the latest 418.11 and I immediately got the GPU "out of memory" as soon as the render started. I rolled back the driver to 411.70 and everything is fast again. Don't know if this could be your problem.

I might have to do that,  even though I am not getting a memory error,  but I do have the latest driver installed

I only have 1 Graphics card. and that is the 1070
I did try uncheck CPU and then it seems to me, that there is no difference at all.

If you have complex scenes, it does help save resources if you hide anything in the Scene Manager that's not in view, reflects, or casts a shadow.

So if you have an animation with different camera angles, it would be better to render one camera angle at the time, allowing you to hide items that do not contribute to the scene.
