Hello, ive been trying to convert an imorted mesh to terrain. Iclone 8.32 always stops working at 24%. Sometimes on ludicrously small meshes the convert works, on anything else nothing happens, not even after 30 minutes, it just sticks to 24%. Is anyone else having this problem ?

While this not something I would normally need, I tested this with a small landscape. The process finished, but I'm not sure how long it took, since I was surfing the net while iClone was doing its thing. I'm guessing the red lines have something to do with collision detection. NB: I'm adding the screenshot as an attachment so that the forum software won't reduce the resolution.

Does it happen with all meshes you try to convert?

I ve been trying to convert meshes from software like Gaea and Terresculptor . With Gaea it doesnt seem to work at all. Importing them does work, but not converting. Gaea meshes appear extremly small , 3D Xchange sais "too small", and Iclone sticks at 24%. Obj meshes from Terresculptor seem to work sometimes but i can not say exactly when. Perhaps i misunderstand that Terrain conversion thing. I was hoping to use one of these spectacular Gaea Landscapes withing Iclone as a terrain. The current test conversion on the mesh below goes on with high GPU usage for at least 20 minutes now, Iclone sticking at 24%. https://rjkole.com/p_temp/t1c.obj

Terrain is a large self-mesh physics collision shape. Converting 0.5M polygons into collision shape is unrealistic and it might take forever. Import that into CC, LOD it to 50K with Polygon Reduction Object, send it to iClone and convert to terrain (you are not going to get all those details though). I would not recommend going over 100K for the mesh height terrain.

Thanks 4u2ges , that was an excellent hint. Poly Reduction let me convert that mesh withing seconds. Lost some details, but turned out better then expected.

If you want/need the higher-poly version for rendering can you not use both, the low-poly as a terrain to place the character(s) and the high-poly for rendering (once the character is in place)?

I guess this (high poly) would work only with static scenes, for animations you need the smaller terrain IIRC. If not i would love to read how to do so. PS: I played around a little with terrains now, looks like that custom terrains are way better to handle as the inbuilt Iclone Terrains. At least what details is concerned.

As Nirwana mentioned, you have to use both (hi and low poly versions). Low poly as terrain and hi poly as actual terrain-prop for rendering. You may even have both at the scene at the same time. Since hiding terrain makes it inactive, you may set material opacity to 0 before converting low poly version to terrain. You'd only see physics bounding (red lines) while selecting it. And then have hi-poly as prop.

Thank you ! The problem is that when importing a mesh and adding a diffuse (color) map from my terrain generator i need to adjust the modify Panel->UV settings (beneath tesselation) which can only be done with the low poly mesh. This function crashes CC/Iclone also when doing this on high poly meshes. Unfortunatley my software (terresculptor) doesnt export fbx or obj together with the nessecary maps, so i have to do this manually in CC/Iclone. I am shure there is another way, but i havent found out yet. EDIT: Well i guess you have to find a compromise beetween what CC/IC can handle and LOW/High Poly, the below took CC about 10 Minutes and may be considered as High Poly :-)
