This is so exiting. Thats exaxtly what ive been trying this morning. Though i went the wrong way, over Smart UV Unwrapping etc. where Blender got stuck again. Your video helped me alot. Thanks so much ! Here is what came out (CC4). I think thats about the maximum in concern of details for static scenes. All together a good day, ive leared somthing about UV Mapping and BLENDERRRRR ;-)

You are talking about creating a UV map - unwrapping 3D mesh into 2D space so you can texture it. This process is a science in itself and cannot be skipped for any 3D object unless you want it to only have a flat color. I suggest googling to understand UV unwrap purpose and how UV maps are generally created. iClone/CC have very basic options for making UVs. BTW Planar by Z axis (basically projected from top view) takes 3 minutes for 0.5M polys on my PC (not sure why it crashes on your computer). But in Blender making a projected UV map takes a second. The equivalent is "Project from View (Bounds)" from UV menu.

@ 4u2ges
You can create a material in Blender, but texture it with ease in CC or iClone using substance or some textures. I guess i havent understood (see picture above, modify Panel->UV settings) what exactly happens here. In my case i must select Z and apply in order to get my diffuse map projected properly on the mesh. But this will only work on low poly meshes. Would be great if can skip this with creating a material in blender.

As a matter of fact, i had the idea of making an fbx with blender today, but adding a simple texture is such a complicating task that i gave up on it. You picked a wrong task, that is the one thing you would not want to do in Blender unless you proficient with nodes system (procedural or texture maps). You can create a material in Blender, but texture it with ease in CC or iClone using substance or some textures.

@animagic Yes, I get that. I'm not exactly a spring chicken either. It is true that becoming "really good" at something (not just software) takes (many) years of learning and practice, but it may be possible to learn the basics in far shorter time. Since I only use certain functions/features of iClone, I don't bother to study the manual and all the tutorials from cover to cover but rather on a "need to find out" basis. And as I said before, although I have been using C4D for many years, I'm no way near as proficient as some others, but then again, for what I do in terms of 3D animation, I don't have to be.

@Nirwana: I am at an age (just like Mike Kelley) were time is precious and investing years in getting really good at using another software is just not feasible for me. So I am aware of and live with the current limitations of my current setup.

Easier said than done... Yeah, sure, any new (complex) software requires learning. The thing is how important are those things to you that your 3D current software can't do well or perhaps not at all? Do you want them badly enough to spend the expense and time on new software? In my case, I had been using Cinema 4D on and off for years before I even really heard of iClone (my first iClone version was 7), so for me it's iClone that still requires getting used too (not that I'm a C4D "expert" by any means). As I said before in this forum, I only use iClone/CC for the things that software is good at, i.e. creating and animating characters because, as far as I'm concerned, C4D sucks in that regard (in fact, if it weren't for iClone, I wouldn't even bother with character animation at all). However, everything else such as assembling scenes, camera work, lighting, physics and particles simulation, cloth-simulation, fire-simulation, fluid-simulation (the latter requires X-Particles, a paid plug-in) and, of course, final rendering, I'd much rather do in C4D.
Any suggestions ? Unreal , Unity ? Please not Blender I have no experience whatsoever with Unreal or Unity (I don't even play computer games), so I can't say anything about either. I did briefly try Blender, but I have a hard time wrapping my head around the UI and general look and feel of the program. The only other software I can speak about somewhat knowledgeably is Cinema 4D, but that program is not cheap. And it also takes a lot of learning but that is true of pretty much every full-featured 3DCC software. Again, the question is what is getting what you want (e.g. high-poly landscapes) worth to you?

@ 4u2ges if i just woulnt hate blender so much .-/// As a matter of fact, i had the idea of making an fbx with blender today, but adding a simple texture is such a complicating task that i gave up on it. I find the blender navigation extremly confusing an unlogical. BTW: The iclone terrain deserves an update in my opinion. The current state seems the same as in Iclone 5 assuming from an Iclone 5 tutorial. I guess so. At least if you want everything to end up in iClone. However, If you are really interested in high-poly landscapes, I would strongly suggest importing the iClone character(s) into a different 3DCC and finishing everything there. Any suggestions ? Unreal , Unity ? Please not Blender :D:D

Well i guess you have to find a compromise beetween what CC/IC can handle and LOW/High Poly, the below took CC about 10 Minutes and may be considered as High Poly :-)
