A suit-less motion solution would be desired by many IF it can do the job but is new tech so it remains to be seen if it can do it effectively. I've looked at RADiCAL but hate the subscription model. Too pricey for so little. I also hate sites (i.e. DeepMotion) that don't put their pricing up front without forcing one to "Sign-Up" to see specifics. What, are they afraid of showing their prices because it will scare people off or are they not that far along yet to have any pricing? At least RADiCAL publishes their pricing, unlike DeepMotion, and hopefully the desktop App from RADiCAL will allow more conversions for less. Jeff Edit: sp

I suspect it will have a cost later. :)

Re DeepMotion: Rampa (8/18/2020) It's actually in alpha. So signing up is free. I suspect it will have a cost later. :)Thanks Rampa. That explains the lack of pricing. Only at the bottom of the page did I finally find it saying sign up for an alpha trial. Any comparison (i.e. pro's&con's) to RADiCAL yet? Jeff

Hi Jeff. I actually have not tried it. They just sent me an email about it a while back.

Rampa, how effective is RADICAL with capturing the delicate hand and finger motions used in sign language? I'd like to see them demonstrate that before I sign up for anything.

Hi @JasonWynngard,
Sign language use will be a great application story. Would suggest to let the RADiCAL team to answer on your question. (samples of capturing the delicate hand and finger motions used in sign language)

I’m surely their exact target market (professional with paid projects; also use mocap for own passion projects and have $$ to spend), but RADiCAL currently has a major barrier for entry - those bizarre time limits in their plans. If it said this, I’d buy it: “Upload your videos (an hour of video per day) and export up to 3 minutes of mocap per week for $300 a year. Or export 20 minutes per week for $500 a year”. :) That’s the kind of math that would work. But the trial and error nature of mocap (as ANYONE with experience can tell you) means that their weird limits on video uploading (not actual outputting of FBX but even uploading video to process!) makes it unusable for any real project. I could be way off here - I am in the middle of a big project so forgive me if I’m totally wrong, but this is all based on browsing their website and trying to figure out their offering!!

Honestly, even if their mocap was perfect (and it won't be) I don't think their pricing makes any sense to any but the folks making a lot of money with their animations (and those folks can afford better solutions, like PN). Plus -- a solution like this that is SO dependent on the company being around more than a year just is screwy. I make a prediction now that we won't even know about these guys a year from now (and I'm usually right about this kind of thing). Hopefully, for the rest of you, they'll prove me wrong.

I think it would make sense for me - even though I have a mocap suit etc - from a business perspective ONLY if it’s as good as suit mocap but faster (suiting up and adjusting for diffferent sized people can be a pain). Also, fingers! If it does fine finger capture from - say - a 4k or 6k video, that would be great.

mrtobycook (9/7/2020) Also, fingers! If it does fine finger capture from - say - a 4k or 6k video, that would be great. If we judge by the way it captures the feet (a lot of sliding), they have a lot of work to do, if they ever get there. But You can always dream...
