Hi mtakerkart, Thanks for that. AFAIK a vector field is just a set of instructions for either particles or sprites. cf https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vector_field So a vector field like that one above would be the result of the orders you gave to the particle emitter or emitters. Each particle can have its own birth and death and transformations, colour, speed, direction etc With fluid effects it depends whether you want a 2D surface or a solid volume or drips or splashes or waves - they are all different and have to be combined together. I know this sounds like I know how to do it all; but I don't. I wish I did. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_y7Z0MbGOMw

Thank you SeanMac. I will investigate Popcorn anyway now I know where I'm going. For me after this plugin releasing , all of the new feature will be icing on the cake...

+1 On a special POPCORNFX forum. The more the merrier! It cuts the noize... So the fact that there seems to be a link between Houdini and POPCORNFX piqued my interest. The simulations out of Houdini are hard to beat. I will have to study more how this fits together.

Hi animagic, thanks for that.
AFAIK you could also use Unreal 4's cascade and Blueprints system to generate image sequences for transport on into iClone 7.
Houdini is free to try as Houdini Apprentice [https://www.sidefx.com/buy/]
I am a little downcast at the amount of learning to be done for all this. :-(

I found some French tutorial and seriously learning all this script fonction by heart is not my cup of tea. It's really a job itself. https://wiki.popcornfx.com/index.php/Scripting_reference_1110The principe of Popcorn is like the UDK "Cascade" particle but it's called Layers instead of cascade module. But I'm shure for people comfortable with script could make a Template particle like the Super substance Tool to make very descent particle in a easy way. All popcorn fonction could be create as a slider and I really don't understand why they didn't make this to democratize their fabulous app. Another strange thing is there is a hidden application to create Atlas sprite called "Atlas Builder" in the App folder. Let's see what Reallusion have in their wharehouse ;)

I would certainly hope that at least most major particle systems are included in any price for a plug-in for this -- otherwise you are just paying for, say, a python interface (where you have to do all the scripting yourself to make anything worthwhile). While I am definitely looking forward to the python ability, I wouldn't pay for it as a separate plug-in as there just wouldn't be much value in that. The same goes here -- much of the value really comes from any canned stuff that can be used right away. But let's see what the price is before we worry too much (if this is more than $100 it had damn well better include a ton of particle systems).

I rescued a PopcornFX update from my SPAM folder and got this WIP video https://www.reallusion.com/iclone/vfx/popcornfx/default.html Launch date is set at present for December 2017 according to the briefing. It also offers a download of the editor for us to practice on before the plug-in arrives. "Free Editor & PopcornFX Import for Limitless Particles - Create brand new particle behaviors using the powerful script-based PopcornFX Editor.
- Learn by samples, wiki, and free tutorials.
- Directly load PopcornFX into iClone via the PopcornFX Plug-in."

I know the effects look terrific (especially compared to the particles we now have in iClone) but to me the most important part of that page is this (because I'm WAY too old to learn yet another particle system -- I want a full featured set available that I can tweak): PopcornFX Content Library - Primary Build-up System
- Full 3D Effect Collections (!!!!! Yay!!)

I see that RL have added a POPCORNFX forum to the plug-ins. Thanks for that, RL.
