I own Daz Decimator... Result is poor due to lack of documentation/tutorials in combination with my poor skills and knowledge...
Distortion or clothes poke through...
What you Pros babble does not help me, sorry
Nowadays rookies need documentation and video-tutorials :DYour determined and not afraid. I'll lay it out for you with care.
You want good Daz decimation results?
You've got to fix Daz mesh's. There is no way around it.
Use something like Blender and make quads.
Move the vertices..... otherwise your playing Russian roulette.
...so many are unwilling to do this... and suffer the poor results.
Crank up the resolution enough and anything will look good.
Attempt to decimate (Not All but a larger amount of) Daz content and experience "Poor Modeling."
You can always pay 3 to 5 times more for the same content that
"Will" decimate pleasantly.
...or learn how create "Low Poly Proxies" and speed it up with "SkinWrap."
Thousands upon thousands of fewer poly's.

....that render super fast and looks great. ....

1024 x 1024 (Diffuse, Specular and Nomal Map)
Nothing HD!
Ray Trace this with AO & Sub Surface Scattering.... "Realistic 3d Character"
No need for HD NormalMaps..... Myth.
