I can't seem to get my AML templates to show up once I place them on my set as they do in the tutorial; I only see the yellow "select" lines; consequently, I can't seem to be able to get my props to attach to them.

Can anyone help?

Please check to make sure that the AML Template is not set to Hide in Scene Manager. When an object is set to Hide you will only see the yellow selection frame. Also make sure it is not being hidden in a floor prop. If you are using a floor prop try raising the AML Template on the Z axis a little (or lower the floor accordingly).
