Hi All, I currently work only in reallusion products but am looking for more realism. I've tried iray which turned out to be a complete bust for me. My question is - is it worthwhile purchasing 3dx pipeline just to be able to use unreal livelink? I'd also need to upgrade the licenses on all my purchased content. Do those who use it find the cinematic quality worth the investment?

Hi. It depends on what kind of movie you're making. If you use less than 3 avatars without large scene, Iclone is really enough, you just need to work on your lighting, nativ renderer for Iclone can give you a very good results. Now, if you use large scene or ocean shots or scene with animated crowd, unreal is a must have if you want to work fastly and with good results. But you have to learn learn and learn again, to be patient.

Certainly sounds like it will be worth it. I do have some large scenes planned and it would seem unreal does speed up the creation of high quality scenes. Now is the best time to purchase 3dx pipeline as well.
Do you find rendering from unreal faster?

In my opinion the combination of IClone , CC3 , 3dxchange & Unreal is fantastic. Unreal is the fastest renderer I know. 30fps realtime : 76% of original size (was 666x19) - Click to enlarge

If it renders so fast is it really heavy on system resources? VRAM I'm thinking of most! Especially since the renders seem so sharp.

If you want cinematic results with iClone, getting the 3DXchange pipeline is a no brainer. It's very well designed and enginered. I'm developing a series and the 3DXchange has been an amazing tool to have. I can throw a lot of animations into iClone via 3DXchange, tweak them, and get them to Unreal (via live link or FBX) I mainly use iClone + 3DXchange to tweak animations I capture with my Rokoko suit but I keep finding new uses for the iClone/3DXchange. So IMO the pipeline version is worth the money you pay! Here's the latest short I made using the live link with iClone.

Thanks Bassline, you're an inspiration! I can't reccomend enough the Unreal Tips & Tricks for those who really want to take advantage of the Live Link.
