...I think there is no doubt that this is one of those tools that will be highly dependent on the skill of the user.

Indeed.... the more you understand the process... the faster you excel.
For me it will require changing my approach to animating with Iclone. I have always seen facial animation as difficult and the end result is always the weakest part of the production

Sir.... Reallusion is providing you the EASIEST way to achieve awesome facial animation.
It is TIME to "Raise-the-Bar".
My hope is that I can master the skills, use it effectively and the rewards will justify the investment.

You WILL using the new motion graph editor.
...as freerange stated, "The subtle eye (with viseme blending)...movements are most difficult to achieve... the standard way."

Do you need to have 3dx 7 to set this up?
Will 3dx 6 be fine?

It requires iClone 7.02.

I have IC7.  But I'm still using 3dx6 .  I watched in the video that they added a couple more morphs for faceware.  So does that mean 3dx6 won't work? Setup will be in 3dx7 or else faceware won't get the right setup.

Not sure about custom characters through 3DX6. But you could try DAZ characters. The Genesis Extension files were just updated to work with Faceware. Genesis 8 is now supported as well. They can be downloaded from the Patch/Bonus link for 3DX on your RL Account page.

Ok so need some clarification from RL if 3dx 7 is required to setup a character to work with faceware. I don't use Daz stuff. I use custom characters.
Will 3dx6 be enough to setup the morphs that would be needed in faceware?

3DX6 should work fine. Remember, all facial gestures are driven by the face rig. So if there are fewer morphs then the rig can support, you'll just be driving those fewer morphs. You can have a maximum of 60.

Faceware tracks 42 points. Some are muscle, some are viseme, and some are rotation. I do not know how that relates to the 60 total exactly. But my guess is that some intermediate ones may get added in to smooth the motion a bit more.

So  create your characters, get your capture device, and download the 30 day trial to try it out!

Well there's always the refund if it doesn't work with 3dx6 :D

The 30 day demo lets you preview your capture on the character, but not record. So you should be able to test it just fine, without spending money.

Has anyone tried to record from a Daz character then export the recording and apply it back onto the Daz character in Daz Studio?

Why do I even bother posting in this forum.  Nobody ever answers!
