Looks like a great new feature. Good luck to RL on this . But for me RL has got the marketing and price wrong on this . There should be a three tier licence option based on income  like you get with most expensive niche software packages these days . I can pick up a copy of HOUDINI INDIE for   $199 a year and thats about as good as it gets .

Tier 1 -full price for large studios etc
Tier 2- small indio teams
Tier 3 -students /Individuals  etc

Such a big investment for some thing that is essentially just a time saver and is already inside of IC7 with the audio lip sync options linked tho the face morphs . There is no new face morphs added to IC7 with this addon. Price will leave a bitter taste in the mouth of many people who supported and purchased IC7.

Well not to start another debate as each person has his or her own opinions. I feel Reallusion did a great job bringing a pro software into our reach. I picked up my copy yesterday and hope to be Faceware-in this weekend.

I agree. Even the $700 price tag for members is too high for what you get. The automatic lip sync, Mixmotions and the face puppet can do the same or better to animate the face. The facial Mocap plugin would have to be around $200 to get me motivated to buy It.

That said, I congratulate RL for constantly upgrading their products. For me, it is the best animation platform out there.

If you have not used face mocap and have not seen the life it brings into a character especially around the eyes and how challenging that is to get through other methods in addition to the massive time savings you get then you don't know what you are missing. Faceware is a whole different ballgame from trying to knock this out using iClone's built in tools.

I'm still in the early stages of learning how to use the plug-in so I haven't really formed a view on how good it is, but I think there is no doubt that this is one of those tools that will be highly dependent on the skill of the user. For me it will require changing my approach to animating with Iclone. I have always seen facial animation as difficult and the end result is always the weakest part of the production. I have not seen very many Iclone productions, even by the most skilled Iclone users, that have good facial animation. Historically, it's been a major failing for Iclone, so just applying themselves to addressing this issue is a major step forward for RL.
Yes it is very expensive, particularly if you don't learn how to effectively utilise it, but it surely has the potential to take everyone's production to a new level. For me this investment is well beyond what I could normally justify, particularly after buying IC7+3dx7 pipeline, but I think it's important for me to learn the skills and get my animation to the standard I'm aiming for. So it's an investment / commitment in my skill development.
Finally, I would add that having looked at pricing on the Faceware site, there is absolutely no way I could ever have got access to this technology without RL.
My hope is that I can master the skills, use it effectively and the rewards will justify the investment. I trust RL will support it long term, will refine and evolve it and ensure it doesn't become another Indigo....major commitment, major step forward for everyone is what I want...and a good price on the hair plug-in as a thanks for the huge investment I've made with RL.
Cheers,
Tony

Do you need to have 3dx 7 to set this up?
Will 3dx 6 be fine?

Indeed.... the more you understand the process... the faster you excel.

Sir.... Reallusion is providing you the EASIEST way to achieve awesome facial animation.
It is TIME to "Raise-the-Bar".
My hope is that I can master the skills, use it effectively and the rewards will justify the investment.

You WILL using the new motion graph editor.
...as freerange stated, "The subtle eye (with viseme blending)...movements are most difficult to achieve... the standard way."

I have IC7.  But I'm still using 3dx6 .  I watched in the video that they added a couple more morphs for faceware.  So does that mean 3dx6 won't work? Setup will be in 3dx7 or else faceware won't get the right setup.
By Rampa - 7 Years Ago
Not sure about custom characters through 3DX6. But you could try DAZ characters. The Genesis Extension files were just updated to work with Faceware. Genesis 8 is now supported as well. They can be downloaded from the Patch/Bonus link for 3DX on your RL Account page.
By hattori kun - 7 Years Ago
Ok so need some clarification from RL if 3dx 7 is required to setup a character to work with faceware. I don't use Daz stuff. I use custom characters.
Will 3dx6 be enough to setup the morphs that would be needed in faceware?
By Rampa - 7 Years Ago
3DX6 should work fine. Remember, all facial gestures are driven by the face rig. So if there are fewer morphs then the rig can support, you'll just be driving those fewer morphs. You can have a maximum of 60.

Faceware tracks 42 points. Some are muscle, some are viseme, and some are rotation. I do not know how that relates to the 60 total exactly. But my guess is that some intermediate ones may get added in to smooth the motion a bit more.

So  create your characters, get your capture device, and download the 30 day trial to try it out!
By hattori kun - 7 Years Ago
Well there's always the refund if it doesn't work with 3dx6 BigGrin
By Rampa - 7 Years Ago
The 30 day demo lets you preview your capture on the character, but not record. So you should be able to test it just fine, without spending money.
By msjaebea - 7 Years Ago
Has anyone tried to record from a Daz character then export the recording and apply it back onto the Daz character in Daz Studio?

Why do I even bother posting in this forum.  Nobody ever answers!
