@ jminbox

I just bought a new dell xps with Nvidia Geforce 745 4GB graphic card pre installed. Probably the same one as yours, and I too experience light/shadow flickering! If I open up the lounge project under project template/scene/lounge, I will see the shadow glitches and flashing right away. You're not the only one, so this is a bug that needs to be fixed. It's something to do with a combination of the new light and shadow in iClone 6.

However I did just upgraded my video card to Nvidia Geforce GTX 750 Ti super clock. $100 off Amazon and it's a very big improvement in performance over the pre-installed GTX 745 from Dell. Everything just runs smooth in iClone 6. But even with the GTX 750Ti, I am still getting the light/shadow flickering. I tested this out on my old PC with Geforce 720 graphic and still experience that light/shadow flickering. so this is a confirmed bug for me as I've tested on 3 different graphic card with the latest driver installed.

Dear Reallusion, please fix this.

@Cellygon

Yes, I have the same Dell. I bought the computer *just* to run iC6. I am certainly not in the mood to buy another graphics card, especially when the 745 exceeds the IC6 system requirements.

You are a very patient person to try all the things you've tried! :D Thank you for confirming the problem.

I share your hopes that RL will address this ASAP, now that you've confirmed that this is not a one-off problem.

Thank you for your debug work! :D

You're welcome,

The 745 is quite good for iClone 6. For most of my test, it handle things pretty well. I just upgrade it to the 750Ti SC because it was on sale for $99. :D Sadly, it's now back to $160.

Even though GTX 745 to 750Ti seems like a small upgrade, I can assure you there's a noticeable huge difference in performance and speed. Nearly every default project in iClone 6 now runs at a solid 60FPS in real-time playback. And the courtyard project which runs at 20FPS in real-time playback on the 745 is now running at 48-60 frame per sec with the 750Ti just to compare. Some of the lag I was experiencing with the 745 in intense projects is now completely gone with the 750Ti. so I am pretty happy with this update. It seems like the performance and speed has doubled, maybe even tripled...

@ Cellygon

I will keep that in mind. I was pleased with the performance I was getting, just not the flickering. :) Unfortunately, now that I've updated my drivers (as this was recommended by RL in these forums), nothing works anymore.

I'm hesitant to spend any more money for iClone-related items (I only use this computer for iClone work) until I can be sure I will be able to be productive. Right now, I can do absolutely nothing with the software. :(

Hi, have you tried rolling back your drivers to ones that work, this can happen also that new/beta drivers are not always the best despite what RL might tell you,and in your case slightly older drivers may suit the gpu better...give it a try its not working anyway

Hello,

Thank you for the advice. I appreciate you taking the time to post about this.

Even with the original drivers, there was still the flickering issue. That has been there from the very start. The new drivers (Nov 18th) simply made iC6 more unstable than it was before. I still had numerous, numerous crashes, over the past 4 days, prior to installing the latest driver.

My concern is that RL will likely not test for specific drivers/graphics cards. They are counting on an abstract layer (DirectX/NVidia libraries) and so I'm uncertain how deep they can go into this. They certainly wouldn't continue testing as new drivers come out. So, one either never updates one's driver or does so and risks IC6 no longer working. It doesn't seem like a good long-term solution.

I would like to think that using drivers that are over a month old would be OK. NVidia is working on a beta driver for the same card but I did not want to install a beta graphics driver. I was already having enough trouble. :)

Problem #2. When using the modify panel; Prop. For example "Florescent lamp" I cannot paste or copy values to the move, rotate or scale boxes, not even to or from a clipboard, Right click highlights, but when the pull down choice box appears, it un-highlights. The same I thing with the time line, sometimes when you right click on a dot or a few, it is very time wasting. iC5 also has this problem for me on the time line.

Home built; ASRock X570 Pro 4, AMD Ryzen 9-5950X CPU, AMD RADEON RX6900XT, 16GB video card, 131GB of RAM.

Besides being a user, I have been playing help desk. So here are some more GPU observations.

What has been reported and what I hope RL can address is that the GPU is doing overtime whereas the CPU is taking it easy. If somehow the CPU could take some of the load, it would help stability and responsiveness. As we have found out from reports, the high GPU usage is particularly detrimental for laptops, which often lack adequate cooling. PSD has suggested an external under the laptop cooler in the hope that that will give some relief.

On a related note, this is my top issue regarding GPU performance:

GPU UTILIZATION WHEN ICLONE IS OPEN BUT INNACTIVE:

If you open the "Default" project, and do absolutely nothing, you will see activity on your GPU.  That's the project with the Rubik's cube, plants in the bowl, a couple of balls, and the box with holes in it.

In my case, I see up to 60% GPU load.  I have not pressed Play.  I am not rendering.  I am just sitting there.

On larger projects, I can actually saturate my GPU (99%) while iClone is idling.  It actually makes moving other windows slugging.  Even typing on the forum becomes a challenge.

Minimizing the iClone window causes the GPU load to drop back to zero.

THIS IS JUST PLAIN WRONG:

Every other application I have, when paused, does not keep either my CPU nor my GPU busy.

It's like it's constantly doing "draw" calls to the card.

I WONDER IF IT AFFECTS RENDERING PERFORMANCE TOO:

If it is doing the same pointless load on the GPU while rendering (iClone is NOT minimized then), it could be causing iClone to render much more slowly than it should.  So fixing this issue might have additional benefits.

A CLUE:

This doesn't happen to all projects.

Props with transparency and especially with reflections seem to be the main culprits.

CURIOUS?

Try installing the free GPU-Z from TechPowerUp and see for yourself.

@jminbox: there was a beta test with about 20 to 30 users, who of course all have different configurations, and there were definitely GPU issues reported and fixed.

During the beta the flickering never surfaced; I definitely didn't see it. So maybe something sneaked in between the last beta and the release. These things happen unfortunately.

That said, this should be fixed, obviously.

Hello,

I am experiencing the lights in a scene flashing randomly. Even when the scene is not playing. No animation. Sitting still not doing anything.

I loaded the Lounge Project and - depending on the viewing angle - can see constant flickering on some surfaces. I have a GTX980 and am using the 344.75 driver.
