1) Open iClone

2) Go to the Folder where iClone Template Files are located.

3) Select a Template File & Drag it to iClone Icon in Taskabar & Drop it onto Either the relevant Content Manager Window or Previewscreen window. Check the User Manual. Re; "Drag & Drop".

NB - Enable "Drag & Drop" External Files in Preferences Drop-Down first.

ADDED -OK. Just watched Video. You have the "Virtual" Templates in Content Manager & the Source Template Files in the Correct File Path Location for Vista/W7. Dragging & Dropping them when required into the Previewscreen might provide a temporary solution until iClone Technical Support can sort-out the XP File Path, when you have Vista/W7?

BTW - Does the same happen when you select non-FX Templates?

Re; CODECs IMO, Video Effects are applied as RAW AVI & CODECs for those would be supplied by Windows with the OS.

That being said, I think I read somewhere that iClone needs a certain CODEC, & that's why I also have Klite CODEC Pack.

Unfortunately I don't have the time right now to check it all out my end, using iC4 as a test.

ADDED - Just remembered that Manual "Drag & Drop" for Video refers to getting Klite CODEC Pack. Presumably for compressing the RAW AVI for iClone Input Mode. In NLE Programs, Video Effects aren't compressed. That's why they appear jerky when Previewed until Rendered to your chosen Format.

When I was running Vista 32 bit I had a similar problem with Widget Cast Pro my swf file would not load and they were looking for a bogus path C/Documents/Settings etc etc

After several mail with support there suggestion was to create another user/administrator account and make sure I had all the updates.

Did this and it worked. So maybe it is worth you trying and create another user account and see what happens. If no good you can then remove it.

Hello,

Ok following your steps here is what i tried.

1) Opened IClone

2) Step two gives me the same errors as before. I opened "c:\users\public\public documents\reallusion\template\iclone4 template\iclone template\project"
As you see above Iclone4 template is listed twice as thats the path to get to them.

3) Drag and drop gives same errors

BTW - Does the same happen when you select non-FX Templates?

As for other non--fx templates all the templates listed on the left side of the screen give me errors and some of them lots of missing files, and every one gives me the codec errors. I have not gone any into any menus or setting or other parts of the software. I simply tried all the items on the left of iclone.

As for K-lite I installed as per K-lite faq's so I installled 32bit version and tried iclone, and still got codec errors. So then I installed the 64bit k-lite and tried iclone again and still get codec errors. That is with doing restarts in between each install, and the k-lite package I used the mega pack.

Maybe the gods don't want me to have the software, its the only thing that makes sense.
Thanks
Fred

edit: oops hit wrong key.

Hello,

Ok now I tried what you said and it did not work I opened control panel created a new user it did its thing for a few minutes and once it was ready I tried Iclone4. And I still get the same crappy errors. As for my system I have all updates on everything with one exception. The exception is i have not update my video card drivers for a few weeks.

So now I will wait for the support gods to help me get this paper weight working.
Thanks for the help

Hello,

Ok so I continue the saga but am getting closer but also causing some problems along the way.
Please excuse and spelling mistakes as typing with one hand does not work well.

So as I/we last left off the issues were error with codec and missing files, and Iclone looking for a directory that does not exist. Well I made some progress with help from many of you, but opened a new can of worms.

First the Codec error, which is the main issue or so it seems. After installing K-lite both 32&64bit and installing the windows vista codec package (which did not make sense to me since I run vista). The codec error was still happening, so during all the reading and the replies to my issue, as well as a reinstall of both Iclone and K-lite it was still not working. So while waiting and praying for more help or a fix to this issue. I decided to run the k-lite "quick codec config" yet again. At this point I got all kinds of messages saying to disable some codecs as well many more options to activate more codecs. After attempting to do what the config program wanted, I had some luck both good and bad.

The semi-good news is that Iclone saw a few of the codecs and some of the templates are/were working (some). But with the good comes bad and the bad has screwed me up more. Atleast one of my programs started to give me errors and has told me to reinstall them, such as camtasia for one. I have not tested all my other video and audio editing suites and I hope they are all no all screwed up. Once Iclone 4 saw at least one of the codecs it fixed some of the path issues. So I now have a couple of issues If I leave it as is some of the Iclone 4 Templates work and some I still get errors, but then my Camtasia Studio needs repairing. And When I repair camtasia studio then Iclone gets goofed up and I have to repair k-lite codecs by reinstalling and running config again.

Im sure this topic will make other go as insain as I am at this point.
Please let me know if anyone has any good ideas, how to fix my issues short of buying a new OS.

Thanks
Gren

I would try a system restore to a point before installing Iclone or k-lite then install Iclone and see if the errors are still there .... remember to uninstal Iclone first.. As to me it looks as though ya registry may be at fault

Hi Swooop

System restore isnt uninstalling its taking it back to a time before either of these programs were installed as it could be that the registry has been corrupted some how and installing and uninstalling will not fix that but a system restore just might and as they may have to wait till after the weekend for support to get back intouch with them its worth a shot dont you think ?

I recall k-lite CODEC Pack causing a number of issues for a number of Users over the years on other Forums. The general advice was don't install it.

However I have it with no problems.

I'll:

1) Check my Saved K-Lite Install EXE File & Post the Version.

2) I'll check the Video/Audio CODECs installed on my W7 Home Premium 64 Bit OS PC & Post Screenshots.

If what I have is ok for me, it should be ok for you. But we don't have the same Programs Installed.

IMO, Generic Video/Audio CODECs are Installed with Windows OS & any additional ones with individual Program Installations. Eg; Pinnacle Studio NLE has Pinnacle Video CODECs, which are developed by another Developer & used by Pinnacle under License.

I would guess that K-Lite have rolled-up all developed CODECs into one package under individual CODEC Developer Licence Agreements. Some of those can screw-up Programs on your PC, if not needed.

ADDED - BTW, I've recently noticed that when Installing iClone Content, there's an incomprehensible Message stating that under Microsoft DRM, Content will now be Installed to the follwing Directory - or whatever

In any event, IMO, you need to contacr Reallusiin Technical Support.

The reason I suggest a system restore is that after installing a codec pack myself recently my prem elements stopped working even un installing the codec pack did not resolve the issue but a restore did ... like I say its worth a shot ... at worse they are back at a point before the problem happened
