My two-cents on this:

For those of you wanting this feature, fine...but I think it is a waste of time, and may likely cause your system to lockup more than you prefer. Perhaps a pop-up that reminds you that your undo's are running out...but nothing automatic.

I don't even let Windows update automatically, so why would I want iClone to overwrite something that may have been working before I started editing, only to find out that the saved file it attempted to auto-save was too big and pukes it back at you when it's done and you try to re-open on a new session?

I can see it now...it starts auto-saving when you're right in the middle of an extended edit...and guess what...you're going to lose any edits that aren't finished when it auto-saves!

I suggest one thing and one thing only...when you get something working added to your project Save It! Then move on...

Using two versions doesn't hurt either and is a better option...but auto save is a lazy feature...and if it's chosen by Reallusion developers as an inclusion feature, then include an option to disable it, I prefer to do the saves myself, then I know I can undo a few steps without wondering what the auto-save actually included or forgot to include. With two-versions used as alternate saves, then I have a better chance that one will actually re-open when I try to re-use it. Setting the last working version as your DEFAULT startup project also ensures that you have yet another working version to fall back on.

My Vote: No Auto-Save!

A good autosave implementation would never overwrite your actual file; look at it as an automated backup every 10 minutes or so that can be restored in case of a crash. Also, there are ways to do this incrementally in order to make it efficient. And, it can be switched off for those who don't want to use it. :D So what's not to like?

If iClone was super-stable, we might be able to do without this, but unfortunately it isn't.

It would be nice if this stability issue was fixed - I wish iClone programmers would actually take this seriously.  Look at all of the alpha and beta testing for newest Blender upgrade, and it's FREE!!! Why doesn't Reallusion take the same care for something they're charging for???  If the next upgrade isn't more stable and offer more wishful features listed, than you will lose a customer.

Sorry, Cricket, but your post makes me think you've lost your mind.

well said test01 - the autosave is desired and works as a workaround but the ultimate solution is a stable app

Like I said...
auto save is a lazy feature

How would you even know it can/could be disabled when it hasn't been implemented as implied/stated above?

Who is Cricket, Test01? :w00t:

I'll admit, I'm lazy, that's why I use computers. :D

In all seriousness though, if you are working on an animation editing the timeline you would probably need to do your own saving every 5 seconds or so, because it is then that iClone tends to lock up.

Anyway, I don't like my software to impose moral judgements really, I paid for it...:P

I'm all for an auto-save feature of some sort. Preferably something that saves to a generic "Back-Up" file, rather the original. And with options to select save time, like 10-20-30-60 minutes (as said above).

Also...

Is there a "Ctrl-S" feature in iClone that instantly saves the project rather than having to navigate back to 'Projects', etc?
