Hi guys! I finally "finished" my project, but I'm addicted now so I'm still looking for ways to tweak it. I have a short earthquake clip in my vid in which I manually moved the camera between key points to get that shaky look, because I couldn't figure out how else to do it.

Is there an easier way to get that 'hand-held' camera look? If not, maybe that would be a good suggestion for the wish list...:)

Thanks for any and all suggestions! M.

Not sure I can help, but I wanted to let you know that your short was very well done!

I agree, a hand-held "filter" would be a valuable addition to iClone.

Thanks for sharing,
Queezi

I've actually requested a 'Shakey Cam' effect somewhere in these forums, so you aren't alone in wanting it!

There are some tricks you can use that might work for you, though I've only had limited success so far:

Try attaching the camera to an avatar's head, and apply some animations to that avatar (talking/presenting animations, etc). The camera will likely move in weird and wonderful ways. Be sure to uncheck the auto-level option to add some fun angles!

Another idea is to play the scene and manually "bump" (move/rotate) the camera at the same time. Better yet, press the "n" key and wiggle the mouse about whilst in that mode (esc to exit).

Neither of those are perfect, but better than nothing (and in my opinion, better that fiddling with the timeline, though that certainly can work and can help fine tune the second method.)

Best of luck, and feel free to ask RL for a built-in effect. The more voices asking, the better chance they'll oblige us!

:hehe:

Thanks...is it Biggs? I thought about how the camera rocks and rolls when linked or attached to a character (like they show in the camera demo before attaching the camera to the bone group) but my scene has one prop (well, two really, since the top half of the building crashes down) and no characters at all. I also tried to use the director mode, but again, no characters, so the stage was empty!

Good suggestion, though! Just won't work in my situation. :)

Yes, you can call me Biggs. :)

There's no reason you couldn't just add an avatar into the scene for the express purpose of using him/her as a wobbly tripod (so to speak). If the camera is right on their head, they'll never be seen, and if they might come into view, you can easily mark them as hidden.

Using an avatar with a camera mounted into his/her head is indeed a great way to get the shaky-cam/earthquake effect....and it's also good just for getting the first person P.O.V. of a character. ( I use that first person P.O.V. method in my Galactica animation projects for Viper pilots.)

I've generally found though that I get results just fine by randomly repositioning the camera every few frames...pretty decent earthquake effect. :)
