The hardest thing I'm finding out about animation is finding voices to play the part of the characters, I purchased voices to use, but if you even put them on tts they sound robotic, does any one suggest any programs to use for a voice changer or how you change voices for your character, Oh Reallusion great product Iclone 3  :)

                                                                                              

why not just get real people - got to www.tmunderground.com - lots of people there willing to do voice acting for free if you have a good script

Hi hiroller. Great suggestion by akn. However I'm still looking as I tend to make my vid's on the hoof and forward planning by default does not come into it. If I do find any helpful software/hardware I'll let you know.

I use voices from www.nextup.com some of them are not perfect, but some are excellent, in particular Serena-UK English which I am presently using for a presentation (see request at Presentation Demo), they also have them with accents, foreign languages etc.

With some finite working you can alter them using Wave Editor from Nero or Voice Changer 6 Diamond, but up to yet have not needed to use them.

I also use TTS voices for my animation as I tend to adapt scripts as I am animating. My latest example is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thNFQxj2thk and have noticed that, in general, female voices seem to be a lot more expressive than male ones even from the same providers. Punctuation is key and even word order can change the tone and timbre of phrasing.

Also some XML commands like <emph> <pron> and <silence> help a lot. I downloaded the Microsoft TTS SDK from Microsoft and use the tools there to build WAV files which I pass through Audacity to improve them. That's all for free!

Another tip is to sample at 44KHz to take away some of the robotic tin from the free voices available, it's a nightmare trying to clean that up in Audacity (but possible).

The advantage of using Audacity is that you can control the duration of a speech to the millisecond (almost) and takes away the trial and error of the TTS tool in the software.

Then I use the open file command to load them into iClone at the correct point.

But I am still looking for a perfect male lead voice though! Anybody know of any new developments out there?

I would also recommend looking for amateur voiceactors to assist in your projects - there are many people online who really enjoy acting in other people's movies. A good place to scout for them -TMUnderground.

There's also the Voice Acting Alliance.


Working with VA's is really pretty simple - it's usually just a matter of you having a script, some common courtesy, email, and some patience.
