Hi, all,

First, please forgive me if this is an issue that has been brought up in another thread. It may have been, and I just didn't search long enough.

I use Photoshop as my image editor when creating clothes....or at least, clothes-like things :D for my avatars. Right now, I just draw them, without all the wrinkle and realism detail (I know I'll get better at that later...)

(another person taps foot.....The point please?!)

Oops...sorry.

Ok, so I can draw new clothes in Photoshop, but I always have a problem with skin showing along the stitch/bleed lines when I put the clothes on my avatar. In the "help" tutorials that come with iClone 3 SE, I think some information has been overlooked.

Where on the diffuse do I need to terminate the edges of the clothing on the front/back grids? Do I terminate them inside the bleed lines, or outside? I see outside the bleed lines on a couple of the images, and I've tried that, but I end up with the same result.

In other words: hellllllp? Pleeaaassssse?! I have fanfilms to make.

Thank you for your time,
Martok2112 :)

The whole idea is to surpass the bleedline enough to cover the variances that can and will happen when the mesh start moving. The bleed actually is a compensation for the elasticity that a normal cloth have. You can see stitches stretch and cloth also stretch/break. That is what the bleed is there for. Keep cover when the mesh is working.

Hope it make some sense

Hi martok

I think your problem is not with the diffuse map,it's most likely the opacity map (any black area  becomes invisable.) The black area on the opacity map probably bleeds into the seams.

LOL! Mel, Gorz, I found that out the hard way. :D

I actually was able to recreate the character of Starbuck from the original Battlestar Galactica. Although the uniform drawing is very basic, it does work pretty well. Heck, the default Jack Causal Clone Cloth looked enough like the original Starbuck so I just ran with it. :D

I'll post the image wherever it is welcome to post images on this forum.

I appreciate everyone's help here. I shall surely be picking some brains here at this forum.

Most appreciatively,
martok2112 (Steve)

Another very wise tip that it took me sooo long to realise!

Maybe somebody with too much time on their hands could trawl through all these forums and put together a hot list of top tips that catch people out alot :D

Kind regards,

Alex

One thing I'll do sometimes, when designing a costume (if it is fairly a symmetrical design) is design one half of a side of a costume (i.e. front left side) and if it seems to fit well on the character, I will duplicate and flip the side to make the other half, and therefore a whole front side...then repeating the process for the back side of the costume. It definitely helps when trying to create a uniform look for the costume.
