Thank you for your suggestion. There will be improvements to the pivot and gizmo function in the next version of iClone. For now, we suggest you can try customizing the pivot position while creating props in other 3D software and then import into iClone.

There is a lengthy discussion, complete with pictures, in this thread.  Especially see my sample linkage made out of Tees; that illustrates it pretty well.

SUMMARY:

When you edit pivot points on props, and then merge the props so you can do IK Animation (via Edit Animation Layer), the props pivot on the original location of the pivots, not where the gizmo appears when you rotate a prop.

REQUEST:

  1. The IK pivots should be in the same location as the gizmo pivot (even if you did an Edit Pivot before merging the prop).  This will result in a zero-length phantom bone that you will only see if to translate a segment when doing Edit Motion Layer.
    • Frankly, the case could be made that current behavior is a bug because of the way it ignores your pivot point.
  2. We really need the ability to edit/move the endpoints of the bones.
    • That would be awesome!
