Hello,

I have a Humanoid character open in CC4. I went to "create accessory" and imported some shorts. Can I make these shorts conform to the character so they will follow when the character is animated? I can use AccuRig to pick a parent , but I don't see any way to assign/paint weights?

ThankYou much for any help

Hi...

The Create > Accessory option is intended for Standard Characters (CC3, CC3+). Humanoid (Non-Standard) characters don't support features like Conform and Transfer Skin Weights.

Normally for Humanoid characters you would clothe the character first before importing into CC4 and characterizing it.

If the clothing is made for that specific character, or reshaped to it, you can attach it and then run Accurig again to rig the clothing as part of the character.

Thanks for the response - If you do it like this, can you isolate the clothing for weight painting? I am asking because I don"t have any experience with Accurig and I would not want to mess with the character's main body weights since those are fine.

Thanks for the response - Is it possible to do without using conform or transfer skin weights?

Regarding a workflow for clothing for Humanoid characters: What about using modular characters within CC4 and iClone - Does that kind of workflow make any sense,  or is it best to just have multiple versions of the same humanoid character, each wearing a different outfit?

You cannot use conform or transfer the skin weights with humanoid characters. But you can rig any humanoid using Accurig. So you could attach the same clothing mesh to any humanoid, then run Accurig to rig the humanoid and its attached clothing. You're basically doing this:
