Hi all,
Unless I am missing a setting somewhere, the viewport is incorrectly cropping the edges of the frame in the latest iClone 8 update, when viewed through a camera.

The cameras film back is set to 40.96 x 17.15 (2.39 crop equivalent FOV to Red Monstro sensor) and in the viewport I am getting pillar boxing that shouldn't be there. When I render the frame, everything looks correct.

I have tried adjusting render settings but no setting fixes it (however this DOES change the viewport and I imagine it shouldn't?), as well as playing with the Fit Render Region and Fit FOV and can't get any combination to work.

Anyone else having this issue? How can I go about filing a bug report?

You need to adjust the render settings to the aspect ratio you want, and the viewport will adjust accordingly. You can then set the camera settings to same aspect ratio but that is not really relevant for the rendering.

There is a setting in Preference called Show Camera Ratio. Uncheck that and you won't see any cropping of the view.

The important thing to remember is that the aspect ratio in the render settings is primary.

I believe the various types of cameras (which I never use) are there if you plan to combine live footage and animation. They are mentioned in the manual: iClone 8 Online Manual - Film Back (reallusion.com).

Thanks for the response!

Unfortunately I don't think this is the issue, as my render aspect ratio doesn't match the crop I am seeing. These settings worked for this same project in a prior version of iClone 8, and additionally, everything looks correct when there is NO camera. However by adding a camera everything changes.

The render itself is set to 1920 x 1080 and the camera has a 2.39:1 aspect ratio (40.96mm x 17.15mm). The 'Show Camera Ratio' is turned on, which correctly displays the 2.39:1 aspect matte in the viewport (what I want). The issue is that when I create a linear camera with those same settings and in the same locations, the edges get cut off. I have tried setting the render to 1920 x 804 (a true 2.39:1) and turned off 'Show Camera Ratio', however I still have the cropped edges. The pillar boxing crop is closer to a 1:1 ratio and there's no setting I can find that should be giving that result.

Unfortunately I think this is probably a really annoying bug, but open to try other solutions if anyone has suggestions. Thanks!

I only use 1920x1080, but I know there are users who use wider aspect ratios so hopefully they can enlighten you further.

I figured out the issue. When you use a large enough sensor size, or a wide enough lens on a camera, the camera will actually see itself.

This is a definite bug, but the temporary solution if anybody needs it, is to turn off the cameras visibility.

Here is an example screenshot taken from a large format sensor and a 3.5mm lens - the octagon shape seems to be the 'lens' of the camera in the viewport, the larger square is the 'camera body', and the small square in the middle is the 'matte box'.
