Clothing gets garbled when I put it on metahuman

Hey guys,

I created a pair of pants and imported it into unreal engine. So far so good.

But when I import it onto a metahuman, although I know it should fit, it puffs out weirdly. I can link it to the skeleton and it animates fine, but that's not what it's supposed to look like!

I attached it by inserting it as the skeletal mesh for the legs in the metahuman blueprint.

Any guesses what's going on?

Oh, also, I should mention. I could have sworn that one single time I uploaded the pants and they looked just right, except for one other thing which I re-exported to fix, lost my previous version, and was never able to find out what I had done to make it work or if I was just imagining things.
