Hello, I am not real familiar with computer hardware. I am looking to purchase a new powerful computer to use when creating large scenes with great detail in iClone and also detailed CC3. I want something that will handle 1 to 2 gb files. I need quick rendering speeds and something that will not bog down with these size files. I don't know whether to get a laptop or desktop. I do not need monitors. Flexibility of the computer is not an issue either. What I get confused about is all the NVIDIA options. I do not know anything about NVIDIA. So do I go with RTX 30 series and if so what is the difference between 3060. 3070. 3090? Which would you recommend? Do I need 16 or 32 RAM? Would you suggest an i9 or will i7 be okay? Some say quad core. Is that the best way to go? Thank you so much for your gracious help untangling this madness for me. Debbie

I got a SWEET deal on an NVIDIA 2070 Super with a great Intel CPU from Razer. I think if you look for the 20XX series you'll get a better deal. Peter used to say that 2070 was the minimum needed if you ever want to do mocap.

Others will chime in but for my two cents (well, two million cents in today's market) let me say the number one most important thing in your iClone setup is your GPU. You want the fastest card with the most memory you can afford. Today the NVidia 3090 is the best, and is likely to be for at least another year. The 3080 is also very nice and in terms of speed is probably as much as you need, but in terms of memory not nearly as nice. If I wanted to really future proof my GPU I'd get the 3090 but in any case I would not settle for less than 12GB of GPU memory. The problem is finding a computer with a 3090 - Dell still sells them, and some other places as well, but you will need to buy the complete computer because otherwise it's impossible to get the 3080/90 separately. As far as the rest of the computer goes, it's nice to have an i9 but I'd make sure I had at least an i7 and at least 64GB core memory for it. Other than that I wouldn't worry too much as iClone can run just fine on even less with a great GPU.

Definitely get a 3090 if you intend on doing texture-intensive Blender work. Having realtime preview on massive scenes is a godsend. If you have a lot of polygons and small textures, you might be able to get away with a 3080.
