Ive seen videos showing all I have to do to set up a background image prop is click and drag the file into CC3 viewport. But it wont let me drop the image file anywhere in the UI or viewport, FBX works fine but no image file extension is allowed. Why?

Try right-clicking and dragging the image. That should give you options for "Plane" and "Image layer". Plane would give you a background. You can move and resize the plane as needed. Image layer is used for foreground masks. The transparent part of the image layer shows what's behind it.

That worked, I would never have guessed it needs to be dragged with the 3rd mouse button, thank you so much!!! :D

You're welcome. The behavior is different from iClone, where left-clicking and dragging is also effective and gives you a 2D scene background (which is different from a plane as it fills the background and cannot be scaled or moved). That option does not exist in CC.
