I have 12 obj file rooms. Butsince I updated to version 7.8, they stopped opening. All other 3d software openfiles, but iclone and 3dxchange do not. It says "Cannot load invaliddata". I have a single polygon an obj door file. Iclone can open it. But it doesn't open the rooms. Is there a restriction for obj files and Is there anybody who has the same problem as me? What do I have todo to download 7.7?

Peter(RL) said somewhere that OBJ import is no longer preferred method for importing assets into iClone/3DX and advised to use FBX instead. I totally disagree. It's like we have a dozen of different import options in RL products and we can ditch OBJ for good. No, OBJ is very popular assets formal and widely used for exchange. There should 100% support for this format import into RL products. In relation to the latest errors with OBJ import. Not sure intentional or not, but they (RL) decided that the mix of Smoothed and non-Smoothed objects shading in single OBJ file is *not acceptable* and through the error. Why? Anyway, if you wish to restore *import-ability* of your rooms assets, you need to open OBJ files in a decent text editor (like Notepad++), find all references for "S OFF" (this an explicit option to not use smooth faces shading) and delete them. OBJ files should import fine after this *surgery*.
Note: There might be more weird bugs like that, but smooth shading bug is what I have found thus far in OBJ import.

I updated the Iclone, relying on the fact that my obj files were previously opened in Iclone. After updating, none of the files started to open and all obj files I had started to give error. I would expect Iclone to be stable. As, I have to think about which file I will not open for each update and it does not create a good impression for long-lasting projects. If I knew I would get such an error because I updated the Iclone, I would have all my files done as FBX files to my designer.

hey guys, i know this is not relating to the forum but i wanted to ask whether for motion live i can use an xbox 360 kinect instead of an xbox one kinect as i just happen to only have the xbox 360 kinect, thanks really appreciate it

I agree that OBJ should be fully supported. FBX files are not always available. Has the OBJ bug been entered in Feedback Tracker? I believe some noise should be made about this.. It is actually also an inconsistent position, because for some pipeline activities such as importing clothing in CC OBJ is used.

I will open a ticket. Just wanted to be 100% sure I nailed the problem. Yes, I have opened one of my large OBJ (1.5 M polygons) in 3DX 6 without an issue. Same OBJ did not open 3DX 7.8, nor iClone. After "S OFF" removal treatment, it opens fine in 7.8 as well.

First of all, thank you very much for your interest. I hope this problem will be solved as soon as possible. Believe me, after updating Iclone, I can't work because I can't open my OBJ files. I hope they fix the OBJ files as soon as possible. In the mean time, thank you for writing the solution.I haven't had a chance to try it yet but it's really amazing thatyou could find a solution like this @4u2ges

I have no recollection of ever saying that. In fact if I did say it I would disagree with it too. Can you point me to the post where I was supposed to have said this.
