Hi All,
Relatively new to the CC3/iClone stack. I am trying to import a Genesis 8 from Daz3d to Character Creator 3 and can't find a way to keep the quad mesh from Daz3d. In Daz3d, the mesh looks like:

When i import into Character Creator 3, this is turned from a quad mesh into triangle mesh - at lower resolution that looks like:https://forum.reallusion.com/uploads/images/ba088df8-0c30-4e79-b91b-7942.png

I tried all sorts of different parameter settings - but could not get the quads to come through. When i ported to iClone 3DXchange, i got an intermediate result of some triangulation of the quads, but at least the resolution held, as seen below.https://forum.reallusion.com/uploads/images/1cbd1f00-623a-41fe-ab16-f498.png

However, when i then tried to get this via FBX into Character Creator 3, it reverted back to the lower resolution triangles-only view above.

A bit stumped. Any thoughts on how best to import a Genesis 8 avatar into Character Creator 3 and retain the quad mesh?

I just did a conversion and my character has quads. The way I checked that was to set the display option in the Scene Manager in CC to wireframe.

What you are looking at is the display when doing an Edit Mesh. Why this shows differently, I wouldn't know.

As to the resolution, the DAZ character is transformed into a genuine CC character, which will have a lower resolution in general.

Importing via 3DXchange does not change the resolution, but it will triangulate. It is only recent that iClone and CC support quads and 3DXchange has not been updated to reflect these changes.

The result via 3DXchange is a so-called non standard human character, which will still work, but lacks the benefits of using CC, such as putting a variety of clothing on your character.

The emphasis in iClone is more on animation than on creating high-quality stills, so the character implementation needs to be efficient. The look of iClone characters has greatly improved over the years and more is coming, but this comes at the price of needing a more powerful PC.

I hope this helps.

Hey @animagic, thanks so much for the quick response. Super helpful. You were exactly right - the quads were there when i looked under Scene Manager. Looking at Edit Mesh shows as triangles. Strange. And yup, just seems to be how CC3 imports - they reduce resolution, which makes sense since the CC3/iClone stack is designed for movement and animation. I'm working on games - so, definitely appreciate the need to manage resolution and LOD. Just was wondering what was happening under the hood in this case. Thanks again for the quick and spot on answer - greatly appreciated.
