Hi springmelt ..... Yes I (originally) used Vue infinite and found it really great. I never got into Bryce though .... I keep gravitating towards programs that are more on the 'fun' side - well at least 'intuitive' - which I realize varies from person to person. Having specialist tools is great but for the one man show, it spreads you thin with so many learning curves. I realize it's not possible to get 'everything' in the one program - but I do find iClone a good base. I like Black Magic's 'Fusion' for creating Camera tracking etc. Guess it depends on a person's project though ......

Please be patient with me ..... I don't always 'get it' the first time 'round - not even the 2nd time! :(  - yikes! ...

@Sonic Regarding Vue: I try not to use subscribed programs also which is the reason I didn't follow the sub crowd to newer versions past Vue 11Inf. When I bought that my main intention was to keep it updated. I still use it a lot as even Vue 11 is still very very powerful. I also use Bryce 7 for some things as it can produce specific types of renders hard to achieve in anything else (more illustrative looking). Plus even using stills as background can be rewarding. The only program I actively subscribe to is Substance Painter which I am learning to use to retexture old clothing and new that I make in Zbrush. I would prefer to buy it :p

@> Flowscape looks like a work of love by the programmer and a lot of fun. Looking forward to trying it when I can get out from under my current projects :)

Is doing a screen capture the preferred way to record Flowscape?

no, it's the only way :)

there is no other output possibility for video

So - Is doing a screen capture the preferred way to record Flowscape?
I noticed Kevin mentioned OBS - which I've used and can definitely vouch for.

The current version is 1.5, and I get the impression that record out or exporting frames was introduced in version 4.
So 'exporting' vs 'screen capture' - guess I'll play with it a little later ........

Edit: Amadeus points out (see the *next post* under this one), that *screen capture* is the ONLY way to obtain a render of any motion with Flowscape. Thanks Amadeus for the heads up. Yes, apparently Flowscaoe ver1.4 introduced 'importing' - not 'exporting'. It's a tad confusing - the video pointed to setting up 'high quality sequences' - but didn't go on to say that you can't export those sequences. So *import* 'yes' (obj files), but export 'no'. As Amadeus said, separate frame capturing is required and Kevin S. suggestion 'OBS Studio' I've now tried and had success with the OBS Studio/Flowscape combo.

Tips: ● By pressing (toggling) ths 'space-bar' inside of Flowscape, you can hide/unhide the on-screen display menus - (use hide while recording).
          ● For OBS, create "hotkeys", one for 'Start Recording', another for 'Stop Recording' because with Flowscape at full-screen you can't access OBS.
          ● To achieve more gentle (slower) camera moves, go to Flowscape Settings (top left) and slide the 'Camera Speed' slider further left.

This is a great combo and I'm frankly surprised at the 'quality' and 'fun' of Flowscape, AND the ability to record camera motion scenes at 30fps 1080p (with Flowscape's 'Screen' and 'Texture' resolutions both set to HIGH) - and all on a laptop, using OBS without frame drops. Stunning. - with moving clouds, water reflections, wind blowing grass & trees, birds and butterflies flying and animals grazing. This Flowscape developer is doing something very clever here ........ thnx again to Tony!

Hi Tony, i use a nvidia graphics card and it's own "Shadowplay" ( ALT + F9 ).

@Kevin
very impressive your clips !

@sonic7
simple is Flowscape indeed. unfortunately it is often accompanied by a lack of precision, especially when it is desired.

beside the tutorials there is a manual, but the last program updates are not included yet.

Yes Cary, I've just now discovered Tony's post here - it reminds me of the Eon 'VUE' programs which do this sort of thing in a more precise way. Unfortunately I no longer use VUE because they've gone across to the 'annual subscription model' of pricing. But this *Flowscape* program looks like a whole lot more fun and intuitive to use - even if not as sophisticated as VUE. - And I'm all for 'simplicity'.
So a big thanks to *Tony* for this find. I've searched a couple of online videos about Flowscape, but the following one is well worth a look *especially* from 8min 25secs to the end - THAT part was a real eye opener for me ....

Hi Amadeus,
yes that’s exactly what I was meaning. These look great! What are you using to capture the flowscape video? I am using the Windows 10 video screen capture. I tried to use the panoscreen output in flowscape but it didn’t work.

Hello, Tony, I'm not sure what you're meaning with
"overlaying any iclone animation", but I've got
iclone animations as greenscreen  over the Flowscapescene, yes.

good luck

@gordryd, "plane over water" ,
