Hello,

I just didsome tests with RADICAL MOCAP. A system without suit and another camera, where youonly need to upload a video and you receive a FBX file. Can someone help me witha better way to turn it into 3DXCHANGE? Here as attached a FBX file. I havealready tried and received a file where I changed the suffix to IMOTION. Andthat gaves me an approximate result.

Thank you in advance for your help

There's no file attached here (and you can't attach an FBX -- zip it up and attach that).

Okay, I downloaded a sample (had to sign up which means I'll now get junk emails.  Sigh).

Here's the problem -- you'll need a t-pose.  You can use the Maya profile, which works fine, but first you need to create a t-pose to use (or perhaps they will provide one).  Someone with Maya could also create a t-pose.  Once you have that pose just use it to calibrate the non-standard fbx file and export it to iClone (where it will work just fine).

Now -- I'm not impressed with this system.  The feet slide too much, and turning around is wonky.  This will work better than the Kinect system (which is a low bar) but given the cost it's not very viable for most people unless their needs are very modest (the pricing scheme really reflects a much better quality capture than what can be done).  I'm also a *little* leery of their support -- they have questions on their YouTube page they haven't answered for 4 months.  I would advise anyone thinking of any long-term commitment to this to think VERY carefully.

Thank you very much for your clear and quick answer. As always with you :)
I wrote to them for a T_POSE file MAYA or something like that. And with that I will try again. I am looking for a new MOCAP Syteme because IKINEMA-ORION no longer exists.

Oh, they went out of business.  Too bad.

Interesting that you found this, because the concept is basically the same (albeit without sensors).  These camera capture systems always have drawbacks.  It's like the old "you get what you pay for" and in this case it's kind of like a more sophisticated Kinect setup.  And in that instance it will have the same drawbacks -- namely, you need to be (mostly) front facing and feet will slide (this was why I gave up on Orion).  They at least seem to have solved the arm crossing in front issues, although I'd be careful about even that (the samples they show have pretty fast movements -- the test would be to put your arms in front of your body, crossed, and see if slower movements track.  I'm going to guess it will be possible and perhaps easy to confuse the system).

For modest mocap needs this might work fine, particularly if you are coming from the Orion.  Nothing will beat a hardware system like the PN but you have to look at costs and decide (these annual fee-based things are always deceptive -- for years I bought the Kinect system at around $300 a year, similar to this which right now is offered at $360.  I wish I had just bit the bullet and gotten the PN sooner, as it pays for itself in a few years).
