After recently watching a tutorial video on kitbashing in another 3D software package, I was inspired to carry out a similar workflow in iClone.

I purchased a KitBash pack from cgtrader (https://www.cgtrader.com/3d-model-collections/hard-surface-sci-fi-industrial-kitbash-pack).
I dropped the FBX file into 3D Exchange, however after I "Apply to iClone" the items all appear as one object inside iClone.
What I would like to do is identify the parts I want to keep and delete the ones I don't need. Then combine them to produce one object.
I would also love to know how to apply different textures to the objects.
Eventually I plan on creating my own objects and materials. But wanted to use this workflow to get my head around iClone and even 3DExchange.

I am beginning to wonder if this type of workflow is possible in iClone. If so I would love to see a video tutorial.

Thanks everyone.

I assume the objects show as different meshes in 3DXchange Scene Tree? If so, you need to select each of them and select "Make Sub-prop" under Modify on the right.

If you post a screen capture of the Scene Tree in 3DXchange, I will be able to explain better if needed.

The problem is it's an FBX file.

Thanks animagic, that worked. Funny I did select "Make Sub-Prop" button but had no idea what it did.

Thanks Kelleytoons, I'm using the OBJ's. Videos were very useful. Can believe I couldn't find them after spending all day searching.

My YouTube channel isn't exactly the tops when it comes to iClone (my 2D software tutorials ARE #1 in the search engine, but since I switched to iClone I've been trying to do more and more tutorials).

When exporting a prop using an FBX from DAZ, you can also hide different parts with 0 opacity, 0 specular, and 0 gloss in 3DX via the materials tab, such as the wheels, export to iClone with "visible only" checked, then hide the the other parts and show one wheel at a time and export those with the same settings.  Take note as to the values for each of these settings to make it the same as the original texture before exporting the wheels, etc.

I do this when I don't want to fool with the textures in iClone and it works pretty well for me.  In this example, in iClone I would bring in the car body, then each wheel, set the pivots to center, attach to the car body and all is good!
