Sorry to keep asking so many questions, but I think I'm beginning to understand this.
I was quite disappointed to discover there's no apparent way to dilate or constrict avatar's pupils using either Face Puppet or Face Key. At least with the one I'm using, her pupils are so constricted they look like a heroin addict's,  Even Poser has a feature that can easily change that, but I can't find any way to do that on iclone. This could be a deal breaker. My project has a lot of face closeups. Does anybody have any ideas?

Hmm, I wonder what character that is...

Anyway, the only way to change the relative size of the pupil is by editing the eye's material (texture).

EDIT: There are actually options, as shown in the posts below...

If you can work in Blender or such, it is actually not that hard to create morphs for the eyes in Morph Creator.
You can make multiple morphs and have those morphed eyes as a template, applying different materials depending on a character.
Here is an example:

I've always thought it was the 'Iris' of the eye that changed with different light levels.

But when I googled just now, I get the impression that it's actually the 'pupil' that changes....

Please be patient with me ..... I don't always 'get it' the first time 'round - not even the 2nd time! :(  - yikes! ...

Good info!
Imo, pupil size is a small but very important detail that is sometimes overlooked, especially if you're trying to be as "real" as possible with close-up shots on a character. I'm sure everyone here already knows how the pupils normally respond to light. However, some may not be aware that when the "fight or flight" response mechanism is triggered(i.e. encountering a difficult exam question, sexual stimulation/arousal, being surprised, etc.) it causes a noticeable slight dilation of the pupils.

The "beauty industry", depending on their targeted audience, will sometimes deliberately photograph/film the models with their pupils dilated for the added sexuality. I remember learning in one of my Anatomy & Physiology courses that they sometimes used certain eye drops to cause this effect, especially in photoshoots where strong lighting was necessary. lol, I can't say that its good for the eyes though, because any drops that constrict or dilate the pupils for extended periods of time can affect the pressure within the eye and cause damage with frequent/repeated use.

Years ago I tried making a custom Eye Tyrant sprite for import into an AD&D module... it ended up being an eye sore as I could never get the iris to look right. Of course, I was limited to a 256-color palette, so there was that, too.
