Here's a music video for a local Austrian band which asked me to create one for them using iclone. I had a lot of fun making this, but also underestimated the amount of work needed by far - as it turns out, most music videos require very short sequences and quick transitions, which goes in hand with having to create entire scenes for only two or three seconds of screen time...
The entire video was done inside iclone (then cut in Vegas), so it was a bit of a challenge to get the band's video footage to blend in with the 3D environment, but with some trickery it worked out.
So turn up the volume, and enjoy!

Well done!  :)
Good animation and editing.

I seem to recall a certain trailer.  ;)

I understand the comment about having to create a lot of assets for a 2-second clip.  Thanks to the time I've spent with iClone, I think about that when watching"real" videos and movies.  We need to create the environment, but even in the physical world (where they may or may not build a set), they need to dress the set, light it, set up cameras, etc.  All that work, and it might be on the screen for just a few seconds.  I guess filmmaking is "expensive" and lots of work in both the physical and virtual worlds.  No free lunch.

iClone 7... Character Creator... Substance Designer/Painter... Blender... Audacity...
Desktop (homebuilt) - Windows 10, Ryzen 9 3900x CPU, GTX 1080 GPU (8GB), 32GB RAM, Asus X570 Pro motherboard, 2TB SSD, terabytes of disk space, dual  monitors.
Laptop - Windows 10, MSI GS63VR STEALTH-252, 16GB RAM, GTX 1060 (6GB), 256GB SSD and 1TB HDD

You're right, justaviking, no free lunch. Also, it's a strange feeling having this finished world just sitting around now, useless... Guess I'll have to come up with some new story :-)

BTW, I forgot to mention a fun little trick - iclone has no slow-motion as such, but if one should need it there's a kind of work-around: render your clip as avi at 60 fps, then change its playback rate to 0.5 in the video editor and you get a nice, smooth effect. I used this in the scene where you see the girl's face as the cars pass each other in order to have her hair move in slow motion, and the result was better than expected. Doesn't work for much slower speeds, though.

Really nice video! I like the atmosphere. especially the scene with the sun/light.

Can't you slow it down in Vegas? And how did you get the reallife scenes into it, do you use vegas with mask and chroma keying or implementing for iclone?

PS:

The song is cool, I'll put it to my playlist :)

Yes indeed, an excellent video. The video mood fit the music quite nicely and I appreciated the way the camera cuts
coincided with the cuts in the music. Nicely done. ;)

I saw your trailer for this and enjoyed it and said that I would look out for your release video.
Although I could not understand the vocals your use of iClone made me watch the video through to the end.
Well done really enjoyed it the band must be delighted.

Thanks for the positive feedback, I really appreciate it !

You can of course slow down any normal 25/30 fps clip in Vegas, but you'll get a choppy lower framerate with artifacts, and immediately notice it looks wrong. If you slow down a 60 fps clip by half it'll still play at a smooth 30 fps (which is what my project fps was).

The real-life scenes are done entirely inside iclone, without chroma keying or the like, which is probably the reason they integrate so well with the rest. You simply use a video instead of a texture in the diffuse channel of the material. For the TV it was simple, just have the video play on the separate screen model and adjust the offsets, etc.The 'outside of car' part was just as simple technically, but much more difficult to 'get right visually': I created a primitive shape as a literal 'movie screen' in front of the car, and projected the video on that. I had to make an opacity mask to soften the edges of the screen so it wouldn't be too obvious that it is one,and then use clever camera settings and angles to lose the illusion of 'a screen in the distance'.

It seems as if the band is right in front and around the car, right? The following is a screenshot of the actual setup - that's how far away the real-life video actually was.

Edit: Thank you! The band was indeed quite happy, except for the bass player, who is just generally grumpy about everything :)

I too saw the trailer earlier and your final work was excellent.:D Lighting was exceptional and so were the special effects. The dashboard with working gauges was a great touch. Was this done in iClone 7 and if I may ask how long did it take you to complete it?
