I am finding it to be much more "pro" feeling. It is still nice and easy to use, but it feels like it has a better base that it's starting growth from.

Basically, I'm loving it!:)

I scooped up the new trees to go with it, and a rock generator called Medusa Pro. The rocks and trees look spectacular!

The basic toolset is the same, so it was only adjusting to the new UI, which is also very familiar feeling from the get-go. I like the docking and tabs a lot. They are very useful.

Hopefully I'll be trying it out on a 40 inch 4K monitor soon. All indications are that it will work fine with the adjustable UI and font size.

I'm a very happy camper!:w00t::w00t:

I didn't buy it. I bought $300 of content I didn't need. I would have bought it anyway, so what is the difference. I got some content for my money.

THe GUI looks nice, and the dockable boxes are a real improvement. I like the scroll sidebars better, because they are bigger and easier to click on.

The Timeline should work better, because the keyframes are larger.
Always had difficulties with IC5 keyframes, being small and easy to have more than 1 key. Having more than 1 keyframe in the same spot and not being able to see there was another keyframe stacked together frequently made it difficult to find problems.
I think the zoom features in timeline will be an improvement.

I always had problems with iclone 5. I had to constantly back up my work. Modifying textues and uv = crashed to desktop all the time. It was basically unusable feature.
Sometimes I could change uv, which is fair to say.

The path command needed work and motions were constantly changing directions, etc. The path and motions are key things for me.

I don't know about the motion edit and 1K thing, but I understand some improvements there as well.

I would say the migration from IC5 to IC6 is an barely workable. If I want to use the application I will have to do so much manual work. The new installer...I rate it poor to impossible. I am looking at modification of vns files as a major pain in the wazoo. I have not even started to change the extensions from vns to imotion or iprop.

I started off just re-downloading and installing content from the reallusion order page. Took several days to download and install. Then when I got done I found method#4. All thes list of things that weren't supposed to be installed ARE installed. I have an entire listing of things to install that are already installed. I don't quite know what to say about this, except it is definitely not right. The sidebars aren't right, but I can't quite figure out the problem. The bar seems to jump to the top after you click it.

Again, I like the GUI, and I think I will like the Substance and Render plugins. I particularly like the choices for textures in the substance plugin. I have a Genetica Pro for texture development, so I'm not quite sure how that will work with Substance.

I look forward to working with it, but until I get all my stuff organized and properly placed that will not happen. Workflow is critical enough when you're organized.

I have searched to see if anyone else besides me thinks that 1Clone 6 is a waste of money and the layout is horrendous? ..... I couldn't find any mention soooooo:

I admit that I have only had it for just over a day but ... well I hate the layout!
It was always so clear where everything could be found on the old layout, even a newbie could work it out in 10 mins ..... but this? OMG where is that easy layout under all this junk?

Is there anyway of making the layout like iClone5's lay out, at all?

And what exactly have i paid my money for? As far as I can see it is iClone 5 (under all the junk) that adds a couple of extra things ... that's all!
Its a upgrade that should have been free .... don't ya think?

I'm ever-so fed-up that i spent my last Christmas money on this ...... or...

Will I all of a sudden begin to see the light?

I do have to find stuff first though ... I can't find anything with the lay out and until I do, I can't do anything on it!

Tia :D

Hello,

I respect your opinion and wish to share my thoughts.

As Reallusion increases it's products (Level of Tools)...
• The learning curve, and pc requirements INCREASE.
• The UI (User Interface) and (Tools) also increases.

~ Tools (Compare iClone 1 thru iClone 6) ~

We all wish for a simple UI with a multitude of EZ Buttons that work perfect.
Many like to make animated moves... shorts, stills, Pre-Vis,etc.
iClone provides an EZ way to accomplish this.

• Is it perfect? NO!
________________________________________________________________

Reallusion's products will spoil many whom have no professional experience.

PROOF! Open a High-End Professional 3d modeling and animation software...
• Like MAYA

From your outlook on CGI...
• You'd would lose your mind trying to peruse the (Deep, Complex UI and Tools)

Even iClone 6 makes it easier to learn.... than Maya and many, many other UI's.
"...Yet, Reallusion has spoiled you and you want it all In a nice neat little IC5 UI"

Learning NEW things is always scary at first.
___________________________________________________________________

There is nothing right or wrong about your comment. IT'S YOUR OPINION!

Kind Regards,
sw00000p

I understand what you are saying but ... when i purchased iClone 6, I thought I was going to see more than what i see now.
The layout does my head in the most because "If something aint broke, why fix it?" and iClone 5's easy layout is what I loved the most.

I do have Maya and I get around that pretty easy 'NOW', but.... because it was blooming confusing at the start ... I just dived in.

I use my son's 3DS Max, and find that quite easy, because i expected it to be hard!
I also use Daz studio a lot now, but that was confusing at first ... like every new software, each one has a learning curve ... whether it be a steep curve ... or not.

Even changing from my old Photoshop CS3 to Photoshop CC had me going for a couple of days .... but I expected that.

I didn't expect this on iClone 6!

So, as for learning something new? ..... I do that with every new software I try out, ...... and I try out a lot! (Thanks to my Son)
but I stick by my 'moan' about the new layout on iclone 6, it doesn't even make sense! ..... what were they thinking?

I'm lucky that i already had this laptop that could cope easy with iClone6. (Yes a laptop!):D
I live for art (Any kind of art these days) and so I chose what i wanted inside the laptop.
3 of those things were: A very decent graphic card, 8GB RAM, and a processor that is adequate (but would have been better if it were quad core)
I'm grateful for that at least ... not so a lot of other people though?

I really think i will consider the 30 day refund and wait until they get it right .... and then re-purchase it .... I know its sad but .... I'm so disappointed with it. :ermm:

likewise I bought content so a no lose situation
yes it does demand more of my system which I upgraded earlier this year
I can understand users who's computers do not meet the specs not getting it and support that choice fully.
If your computer can cope I think it is worth it for displacement and soft cloth alone, I love these additions and yes still will use iC5 as much quicker to render in by far on my system at least but I love the extra options I get with iC6 too including Indigo RT for art shots,
I think the price is very reasonable if you did not buy content but yes make sure your rig is up to the job first it is not for everyone.

I'm only letting you be aware of it, and hope this doesn't become another one of those threads. (I'm trying to be as neutral as possible. Anyone wanting to get into that topic, please do it in another thread.)

Thank you so much for all that info, i really appreciate the time you took replying.
But i still feel its simply a upgrade with an horrendous face! :)
I have just been back on looking for something to excite me .... I turned it off after 10 mins or so, i just don't like it?

But thank you for your reply and yes, i hope this thread doesn't turn into a fight (Or as we say in old Blighty ... "A blumming scrap"!)

Tia

You are most welcome.

I had iClone 2.0, and quickly abandoned it, so I understand.

Check in from time-to-time.  I returned when iClone 5 was released.  Maybe iClone 6.1, 6.2, or 6.3 will capture your fancy.

Regardless, I'm glad I was able to help in some small way.

Good luck whichever path you follow, and a Happy New Year to you.

I highly recommend customizing the UI for your own need/wants. Here's a intro by master Warlord.

I also recommend switching the green to gray in the "preferences" Those two green bars at the top will make you crazy! :hehe:

Just a quick list of likes.

Engine-just start playing with the substances and the soft cloth if you can't see how these features take IC6 level then I think your missing the point. I bought the speed tree pack on sale, fantastic improvement. Realtime smoothing is the real deal Just play with it. My renders are much faster out of iclone which is all I use.  Indigo isn't happening for me as I want animations not stills.  Unless someone can till me how to use it for animation (to slow) I won't be using it.

UI- The improved key framing is a life saver.  You can structure your layout with dock-able windows and save the layout.  Content search is awesome.

Absolutely pleased and invigorated with IC6.

Of course,  I feel for those struggling with hardware issues here.

My two bits

For folks that need to do a lot of file extension-renaming for iClone 6... found this sweet little program at ...
http://fastfilerenamer.com/

works great, drop entire folders into it, and super fast at renaming .vns files to .ixxxxx or whatever... LOVE IT!!!!:P

works for...
"Windows XP, 7, Vista, 200x, NT, 98, ME, Linux/wine and all current 64 bit editions of Windows"

Now it may have been me but I did have to load old G1 avatars into iClone 5 and save them for them to work in iClone 6. For some reason just changing the extensions to .iAvatar didn't "seem" to work but that just may have been something I did.;)

Thanks, Mark, that's a helpful tip. I didn't know that you could just change the extension. I probably didn't pay attention to the memo...
