DAZ is primarily a content company. It was in a way forced to develop the DAZ 3D programme when POSER was not in the hands of a strong management and its future was uncertain. DAZ will still remain as a content company. So DAZ is very particular about the content on its store.
RL, on the other hand, is a Product company. It develops few content as a support to its community. It's effort to use the Pipeline to bring in DAZ and other content is an effort to bring quality content to its community.
In future, I am sure, RL will filter out bad content from its store. It's just that the time hasn't come.

besides, look at it this way, bad content makes good content look great and overpriced content makes ok content look acceptable - like it's own ecosystem. #justsayin

What is bad content anyways ? You go to the marketplace see something you like, try it then buy it, what makes it bad ? Serious Question.

I personally find, if something is well modeled and properly UV mapped (Sw00000p will kiss me), has a decent texture and if rigged properly weightpainted, it is good content. I have bought what I consider bad content from Daz PA's too! models with over complex unnessesary mesh that are not just unusable in iClone but Carrara mostly too, a medieval style village being one I recently found quite useless, every roof tile was multi polygonal even the ground 2million faces!!! but on the other hand have gotten brilliantly made stuff too, Stonemason being a given for optimized mesh without unnessesary polygons beautifully mapped and textured. The Reallusion content all is too. I think a lot of the little bits and bobs props made by people learning put up for a dollar are best given a miss, honestly if you are learning you shouldn't SELL your WIP's, Turbosquid has a lot of this CRAP too! I do not mean well made stuff, there is a lot of that even free. but if you are learning to model and want to make a buck, people ARE going to feel ripped off, free they will not and might even give feedback of a positive helpful kind. I am perfectly capable of modelling my own CRAP and believe it or not, even free (not here, elsewhere, get panned for it) but at least I can say it WAS free and I clearly said I am learning!

I guess this was a good thread. The end results are the same. The content marketplace will be the same, the quality of content will be consistent or the same, and spamming will continue.
Did I expect any more or less? I was put off by all the constant sales pitches on the forums, and all the consistent lack of quality in most of the marketplace content.
There is some very good content on the content marketplace, and most of us know who are the developers we can depend upon for quality items.
We did all get to vent abit and share some reasonable thoughts.
Happy New Year!

I'll reply with the main question here... Why do you charge stuff? This is my honest answer. Because it's funding my hobby of creating iClone videos... This is an expensive hobby for me and I cannot really spend too much. So I sell my stuff to pay for other people's stuff. It works well and it has gotten very far lately. Half of the stuff I usually make for myself... so I take great care, mostly because I'm a big perfectionist... I run by a few things when it comes to content creation here at the Marketplace. I think this over every time I work on any item. Treat every project like I would use it in my iClone productions.UV Mapping and good textures is key, don't forget it!Think to yourself... would you buy this?Would it be useful to someone?Has anybody made this? Will it stand out?I don't think there should be a set code... it's really hard to devise a system and there's too much items going in to do a quality control filter. It's really up to whoever it is. If they release something that isn't worth the price, it's not going to get any attention. It is good content which gets good attention. And yes I do give freebies away time to time... :hehe:

Ben, those are good guidelines. I've seen your work and noticed the careful texturing. Good texturing can make up for an abundance of polygons... As I already mentioned, the one thing I would change is that ALL content (expect for freebies) is mandatorily available on a trial basis. Currently it's not. That would allow a user to assess the suitability and the quality of the content and let them share part of the resposibility. I think that's fair and would avoid the pointing of fingers and some of the complaints.
