The whole idea behind a CCD guild is to be understanding, cool, respectful and intelligent.

There are so many things to learn about iClone creation, a fixation on Zbrush at this time seems like self justification for a lack of immediate productivity.     The technical staff at RL is highly conscious about their releases and they have an order of precedence based on potential productivity.

There is too much more to expect from a developer working with 3DS MAX than with any other system, so it is reasonable to invest most efforts in completing all the MAX resources before any other tools.   Certainly Zbrush is not exactly the most easy and flexible 3D creation program there is.    The simple polygon editing tools in MAX do most of what Zbrush does thorough a very complex series of setups and manipulations.

If CCDs continue waiting for the "ideal" tool to create, they will finally do it when there is no need for more content, because of a natural market saturation.   Normal maps are made in a "snap" with MAX and creating, modifying and exporting content for iClone is a very easy task, requiring usage of a few tools from MAX, which can be learned in a couple of weeks, while you can spend months looking at Zbrush overly loaded interface and cryptic work flow.

Any way, I am sure the Zbrush template could be made easily using the MAX one, and also I bet RL will eventually release such template and not much we will see coming out of it!

Peter,

If releasing the OBJs is easy, then please do it.

We could at least be making our own normal maps in Zbrush. You don't need 3D max to import normal maps into Iclone.

Maybe I'm wrong. What I could do, since Zbrush is one of your partnering companies, I guess I could contact Pixologic support and see if they could figure out a solution.

Hi, LaughingCrows

At present the plans are still to release the ZBrush OBJ files when the new 3DXchange is ready. I'm afraid I don't have any say in when products are released but I will forward your suggestions to those that do. Thanks for your feedback.

I have a little update on the ZBrush situation. The problem has been that while releasing a ZBrush OBJ template could easily be done, the problem would be that there would be no way to export back to iClone without using 3DS Max, which is currently the only software with an iClone3plugin available.

There is light at the end of the tunnel though because all this will be resolved with the release of the new version of 3DXchange which will work with ZBrush files. Once the new 3DXchange is ready (no time frame yet sadly), the ZBrush OBJ Template will be released.

In the meantime if you are a 3DS Max user you can apply for the Max Templates which could be used with ZBrush also. Full details are available from the Developer Center.

I hope this explains the reason, although obviously it won't lesson the frustration.

Thanks for your honesty Peter. That means I and other Zbrush users were sold Iclone 3 on false pretenses. That's very bad. It's even illegal.

So instead of pitching a fit and demanding my money back, for now I'll wait to see if 3DXchange turns out to be the super-cool tool that FINALLY lets non-3d Max users create their own content for Iclone 3.

I'm being patient because you're being honest.

The creation of new tools, templatesand documentation are ongoing. The first development stages have beencompleted with the release of the Max plugin and G3 templates as well as some preview documentation.

There will be updates in the Developer Center soon so we should have an idea of the Zbrush situation then. I'll try and find out more in the meantime and let you all know. Thanks in advance for your patience.

Thank you for the reply Peter.

I'm sure you guys are swamped, but your sales material didn't say "in three months or more," it said the Zbrush template was ready now. I've been waiting over three months, that's more than patient, wouldn't you say?

Currently only the 3DS Max templates are available I'm afraid. More information and documentation on this will be coming soon in the Developer Center. Stay tuned.

Yeah, I'm waiting too. Since the release date. I bought the 3.0 bundle because your site said we would be able to morph characters in Zbrush with the "Iclone 3 OBJ actor template."

I would appreciate an estimated release date. It's been three months now. I'm not sure why releasing an obj file you already have is taking so long. I'm not trying to be a drag, but if you've changed your mind and have decided not to release it, please let me know so I can get a refund.

It's just not cool to advertise something then not follow through with it, ya know?
