The help files indicate that any final output will be in the highest quality possible (unless you check the box "Preview Render") -- that also seems to imply using the highest quality texture maps available.

You should make this distinction very clear in the help files, please.

Without it, you are totally misleading your customers about render quality!

Hi Jason

I think you may be considering the help guide misleading because you are thinking of iClone like a traditional 3D modeller which it is not.

Like all graphics and 3D software the final output is determined by the settings you have made in Preferences and iClone is no different here. Your output will always be of the highest quality based on the settings you have made. This is normal I think you will agree.

The difference with iClone over most other 3D software is that your working enviroment and final render are the same because iClone works in real time. When you think of it like this it is easy to see how the render settings in Preferences affect both your working and render enviroments.

Hope this explains things a little better. :)

Is it just me - or has glow-mapping stopped glowing in the real-time view, with the latest iClone update? For me, the glow effect only appears on renders now.

I just did a test with a sphere and one of the Glow materials and for me it does show up in preview. I have the latest patch.

I feel embarresed to ask, but you do have Pixel Shading selected, don't you?

A simple sphere glows fine, but other types of prop don't glow in preview with a glow material applied. Yes, I have pixel shading on. And various levels of self-illumination, gloss, black/white diffuse colour, etc. on different props that are meant to glow.

And I'm sure you know.... but you can't have the Ambient color pure Black.:)
It won't Glow with pure Black Ambient. ;)

I wish you could get a Glow behind a Transparent surface:cool:

It works for complicated shapes as well for me. However, I found that a transparent object placed in front of the glowing object kills the glow; it just shows the object without glow.

I fixed my glow mapping problem. I was looking in Preferences, and saw that everything on the Real-Time Render Options was ticked - except Glow! Not sure how that got unticked, I certainly didn't do it. Possibly one of the recent updates knocked it off.

OK, I have seen some cryptic error messages in my time, even written a few, however this one takes the cake...

"Raise Left Cheek"

I tried raising all available cheeks, but to no avail, iClone still got stuck and I had to kill it and restart.

Has anyone else encountered this interesting error message?

I hope this is not a real error message in iClone. Unless I'm very much mistaken this appears to be a very inappropriate error message. I would guess that it means "You're screwed" and probably is referring to the cheek on your posterior. I don't even like saying such a thing in this post, but I'm doing so so that I can emphatically share my utter shock and disappointment in Reallusion for allowing such an error message to exist in their code.

If this error message does indeed exist, I request that Reallusion remove this and any similar messages from their code base and issue an apology to the community. This is extremely unprofessional.

Hi..

Which version of iClone4 are you using?

This particular message was in early test versions of iClone4 but shouldn't be in the latest commercial release. Please try upgrading your version of IC4 to the latest available which is 4.31.2517. This should help resolve any problems you are having. :)
