Expression Strength for Facial Animation isn't initialized properly:
When you save a project with an actor with a non-default facial expression strength value, eg. 200%, the actor will not have the desired expression strength when the project is loaded again. The slider's value reads 200%, but the actor behaves as if it was 100%. If you change the value and set it back to 200% by hand, the actor will display the desired expression strength. That is, you always have to reset the expression strengths by hand when loading a project.

Cheers,
Burkhard

Is the "disappearing" gizmo problem going to be addressed? I have seen it mentioned in the past and I have the problem pretty much all the time during work sessions. Have to reboot the program every time if I want to get it back.

Hi Mark,

This is another issue that is difficult to reproduce and doesn't appear to affect most people. But as you mention it is a serious problem for you so I will pass this to the development team to look into again and see if the cause can be found. In the meantime, please make sure you have updated iClone to v4.12 if you haven't already.

Thanks.

Hi,

I experienced a crash in iC4 when I used the hotkey "G" and then the rotate tool. I didn't fill out a form for it, since I don't consider it much of a problem ( I just switch to front view before rotating )    I just thought I'd let you know incase it's a bug. iC4 crashed when I used "G" then "C" or alt-RMB or picked it from the tool bar. When I try to rotate, the view remains locked in position and iC4 soon crashes. Also, previous to this problem, I was using a Wacom pen & tablet. It was fully functional within iClone but was causing random crashes, so I stopped using it. Perhaps this screwed something up ?

Chris

Thanks for the feedback. This isn't a problem that I can reproduce so it may have been down to the Wacom tablet issue you were having. I will report this problem but if you continue to have crashing problems with iClone please use the Support Form so that it can be looked into on a one to one basis. Thanks.

I have found a new problem, unfortunately.

My iClone project uses a Video Texture (uncompressed AVI), and while the video plays correctly within the iClone project, it does NOT play back in the final Export from iClone (the video sits on the first frame).

I thought it might be the resolution of the video at fault (1080p), but I tried smaller resolutions (720p and 768*432) and they failed to animate as well.

I then tried a different video format (800x600 WMV) and that worked OK. But it doesn't look very good compared to the 1080p AVI.

The uncompressed AVIs were created originally in iClone itself.

In short: Uncompressed AVI videos do not Render out (even though they play within iClone OK).

Please help! :w00t:

Hi,

Now, I would like you to make sure that your PC has included the required codec. we recommend the free K-Lite Codec Pack: http://codecguide.com/. Secondly, WMEncoder 9 are required for WMV codec. Make sure that you’ve installed them.

Please also check the items below:
1) make sure your original video location and the converted location has enough free hard disk space.

2) Please check Task manager whether the available physical memory is enough when you convert the file.

If the problem still persists, please provide the information below to us.
1) Please generate a "dxdiag.txt" for us that we can check your system environment.
i) Select the "Start" menu, click "run"
ii) Input "dxdiag" and click "ok"
iii) It will check your system for a while, after finish, click "save all information"
iv) Save "DxDiag.txt".

Please use main technical support channel: Support Form to contact Reallusion support team for any further assistance.

Peter Edwards (2/7/2010)iClone works in real-time, so what you see in the preview window is what you will get rendered out in the finished product.

Then why can you select the Render Quality as either "Preview" or "Final Render" in the export settings? That does quite suggest that there are two different render modes.
If these checkboxes don't have any effect whatsoever, then they should be removed since they are misleading.

Cheers,
Burkhard

My point was that the settings in the Real Time Render Options affect both what you see in the preview window and the final render. The Preview option in Export is there so you can get a quick look at how your finished output will appear without waiting the full time it would take to do the final render.

With regards to your previous post. I was not suggesting that all your points were wishful features but simply pointing you in the right direction to where to post so they get seen. As I mentioned, all the issues you make will be forwarded to the development team.

Thanks for your continued feedback. It is appreciated. :)

You may not get an immediate response but I can assure youthateverything is looked at so there is no need for "yelling or bitching". ;)

Well it's good to know that. (And I don't feel like yelling and bitching anyway.)

I have noticed that some of the issues you raise are actually features that iClone does not have and you would like to see. To make it easier to collate this information, we have a Wishful Features forum especially for this purpose so it would be better to post feature suggestions HERE.

Well I do consider the emitter settings not properly restored a bug and not a missing feature. Not a big deal, but it's annoying to always have to reset the values by hand.
I also don't consider it a missing feature that some textures I got from the Backstage are either wrong or remaining as "Trials". I'm gonna contact Technical Support about this, as you suggested.

Thanks,
Burkhard

I found an issue with iClone 4.12 (sorry if this has been reported before):

Any image or video exported as "Final Render" is actually only rendered with the "Real-time render options" set in the preferences. The same goes for the image rendered when hitting the "Preview" button.
IMO the expected behavior would be that the "final render" exported images/videos and the Preview image are rendered at maximum quality.

The workaround is simple, just set the quality in the "Real-time render options" section of the preferences to "High" by hand. But it seems quite an issue because it means that - by default - the final images look worse than they could/should.

Cheers,
Burkhard

Hi Burkhard,

I think what you see as an "issue" is because you are viewing iClone as you would a traditional 3D modeller which iClone is not. iClone works in real-time, so what you see in the preview window is what you will get rendered out in the finished product.

It is not a case of having settings for the preview window and then final render settings as you would in a 3D modeller. You mention setting the Real Time Render Options to high as a workaround but I and many iClone users will have this set on High all the time anyway.

As long as your computer can handle it, you should set the render quality as high as possible and work with that setting. If you think of iClone as a 3D movie machine, much like a computer game, rather than a 3D modeller I think you will see the process differently.

Thanks.
