If you have a repeatable "I can make it crash" situation, please report it on Feedback Tracker, and include access to a copy of the project if possible.

You can also provide "instruction" here and see if anyone else can duplicate the crash.
Often times, duplicating a bug is 80% of getting it fixed.

It was the dumb spotlight I added to the scene with some high values, which was causing the crash. Now the crash is not happening, wasted many hours on this silly mistake. :)

The only way to avoid making mistakes is to not do anything at all. Me, I try to make a different mistake every time. :D

Ok guys it is still happening, I have even increased the virtual memory of all my drives but it is still crashing the computer, exactly when I render the video of my scene.
Going to upload crash dump files to the feedback tracker.

This is really frustrating because when I render an animation of my character without all the dof and gi settings and my scene it never crashes.
So something in my scene is causing it and I have no idea exactly what.

There is a "Preview" render and a "Final Render". The final one has super sampling which may be causing the crash. If you select 3*3 SS, your tripling your VRAM needs, I believe.

Many of us have discovered we really get a very nice render using the preview mode. It's faster too! :)

Remember you can always do SS if you need it by rendering at 4K and resizing to HD in a video editor.

Yes I am doing final renders and using 3 x 3 ss.

How do I calculate how much VRAM my scene will require using 3 X 3 ss or 2 x 2 ss?

I have a 8GB  AMD graphic card, I think that might suffice isn't it?

The issue is that before the update I rendered using 3 x3 ss same scene with different animations and there was no crash.

I will try with 2 x 2 ss and see how it goes.
edit : iclone while rendering should also show how much VRAM is being used just like while previewing using timeline. This will really help and they should add this feature.

When I am running the animation in timeline it is using almost 3.2 GB VRAM, so using 3 x 3 might be causing the crash going over 9 GB, I am trying to render at 2 x2 now.
Plus I am running dual monitors and others apps open in the second window.

While rendering in Blender we can always combine 2 or more graphic cards to increase total rendering speed.

Does iclone also render faster if we combine 2 x 8GB graphic card on the same CPU?

Well, it crashed the PC again, the only difference is it reached 228 frames out of 270 frames this time.

I think VRAM is the problem as you mentioned.

Does Iclone while rendering loads in VRAM only part of the scene of the viewport which is visible or it stores in memory all the assets in the scene?

If I make the objects out of camera view invisible during rendering process will it release some VRAM?

With the 7.21 update, it is supposed to be releasing the memory when you hide stuff. Give it a shot!

The VRAM may be it, but it does use system ram if it overflows the VRAM, at least in the preview window. Do try rendering in preview mode instead. I doubt you'll see any difference visually, but performance may improve.

Multiple cards in SLI or Crossfire may actually cause problems. It is made for a single card.

If it is Vram thats causing an issue there must be a bug. I've rendered animations in iClone 7(not 7.2) that used in excess of 15gb and my card is only a gtx 970 with 4gb of ram. The system should use system ram when vram is full.

Well I tried again this time I opened Windows task manager to see how GPU is being used.

GPU usage never went above 4.5 GB out of 8GB  and cpu never over 20 %.

So I doubt VRAM is a problem here.

Something is wrong with iclone itself. Any idea how can I re-roll to the old version of iclone?
