...I'll keep that "convert to editable mesh" trick in mind. It seems like something that I'll need later on.

Here's another one that will really comes in handy, for me.

Many times when you import a character and want to make a few edits....
1. You select the mesh and enter sub-object selection mode. (Where you select a vertex, edge or face.
2. As soon the you make that selection... Boing! The mesh suddenly "Pops of out position."
3. The mesh no longer is aligned to the bones.

Example:
Import a iClone character. Go into polygon selection mode.
Select a polygon....Boing!

Fix this... as you did... Copy the mesh.
(NOW SAVE THE SKIN)

Remove all of the modifiers down to it's original modifier...
(Rest the Vertices and pivots)  "This stops the "Boing"

In 3ds Max you use "Reset XForm". or "Freeze Transforms"
Here's how you do it in Maya.

Now the mesh is "Clean"
Clone it... to make Cloth or morphs.

Re-Skin the (Base) mesh quickly by applying the "Saved Skin"
DELETE the Original Mesh you imported...
You just replaced it with a "Clean Mesh.":)

Hope This Helps!;)

I think "delete history" is the Maya equivalent of that Blender function because it seems to work. Took me awhile to figure it out but the steps are (for future reference):
  1. Select the new object
  2. Go to Menu: Edit ->Delete by type -> History

The other issue seem to be because of me accidentally creating another duplicate inside the original.

I'll keep that "convert to editable mesh" trick in mind. It seems like something that I'll need later on.

Thanks everyone.

I think when you made a duplicate of the body to make your "bodysuit" clothing, it carried with it the rigging and weighting information. Blender does the same thing. Makes bodysuits really easy! ;)

So you could delete any kind of vertex data associated with that new mesh.

Yes.... copying any mesh will transfer all of the "modifiers" applied to it.
It's important to always view your character in the modify panel, Outliner or whatever shows the modifiers applied to it.

Example:
Skin
Morpher
UVW
Editable Poly

A simple way to clean it up is to "Convert it back to its original modifier."
Editable Mesh
Editable Poly
G... whatever Maya calls it.

Now edit the mesh.... cloth, morphs, etc., etc.

Hi folks. I've been trying to modify an iclone character in Maya, but importing it through 3dxchange has caused some issues (see below). Here's what I did:
  1. Export Mr. Pose + animation to fbx (maya 64-bit preset) using 3dXchange 6.5
  2. Import to Maya 2017
  3. Play the animation (at this point everything seems to be OK)
  4. Duplicate part of the body to create clothing and drag it out to the right
  5. Play the animation again.

Not sure if you can see it clearly, but here are the problems:

  1. The "clothing" animates. I don't think it should since it's not rigged.
  2. The polygon faces are acting weirdly. What I can see is that the "missing" faces from the "cloth" jumped back to the left (the original Mr. Pose' body).

I couldn't find anything on youtube or Google on how to fix this since I'm not sure what this problem is called. Any quick advice on how to fix this? Maybe a video link or two on how to fix these problems? I also welcome suggestion on some alternative workflows like removing the original skeleton before importing, but I'm not sure if that is possible. Thanks.
