Hi all,

I was thinking about a feature that would allow for easier model texturing in 3DXchange or iClone. It would work with the current texture options and the gizmo to make texturing things like roofs and sides of meshes in iClone much easier.

Essentially, you could fill/paint materials per-face and in addition edit the rotation and scale of the texture for each face using a gizmo or control section.

This tool would require a new section called 'textures' (probably under scene). This section would house the tooltip menu and various texture options such as 'link all similar' that would turn all similar (same files loaded and same settings) textures in a model or scene into one single linked texture profile (saving tons of memory with one click). In addition, you could also have advanced UV settings, allowing you to create your own UV setup by ctrl-clicking on a face or ctrl-click-draging on several faces (highlight selected).

I know this is a big idea and it won't be in until iClone 6 or even 7, but it would make life (and my pipeline) a ton easier.

I'd love to see texturing/paint capabilities for iClone 5 like what is available in the current version of Photoshop, where you can directly paint onto a full 3D model .obj.

w00tw00t YAY! Thanks, Peter! The sooner 3d-painting and texturing are possible in iClone, the better! Can't wait to see it included in one of the first iClone5 updates! Wink

Coincidental that this thread associates with the work I am currently stuck on.
having recently purchased some number of village houses and etc... When it comes to changing their colouring I cannot because sometimes only a part of the texture exports and others nothing at all.

Some parts when I change them hue-wise leave behind embedded objects that refuse to change their colour at all. I cannot seperate them in order to export their texture.

WHAT WOULD BE GOOD in future releases of models is that such items that rely on additional parts to their makeup are supplied in grouped parts so that the animators can then change their colours and etc.

The medieval village I initially bought of Reallusion origin is easy to change to a snowy pattern for a snow scene on every tex.
Sadly, almost all the new ones I have purchased disallow this editing control. So I have to make them myself in flat models as they are time consuming in their creation from scratch.

Armstrong.

Hi armstrong,
Which models are you refering to? I never had a problem accessing textures embeded into an object, did you try the eyedropper to select those? Some times that is the best way to select when a model has many shaders per model.

Cheers,
