Surprising, since the geometry of each figure is identical, and the poses are not radically different.

Since the cloth/body clearance is very low, a tiny mismatch in multiple spine and other bones becomes significant and manually matching the pose would become a headache.

But generally, simulating anything with long sleeves in A-pose (moreover in A Narrow pose) is not a good idea.
You'll get another
headache once you transfer weights, where armpit mesh would stretch as arms raised.
Here is a video where I have shown an advantage of simulating in T-pose and fixing an A-pose later on.
You'd need an iClone to import animation in MD for simulation though.

Good observation. Yes, I forgot to mention this: I imported the CC Base Female figure into Marvelous Designer, but then changed the pose from the standard A pose to the slightly “narrower” A pose available inside MD. This pose yields much better draping results for this garment. I  thought that I could just manually adjust the CC Base Female inside CC and “narrow” the A pose to fit the tunic, but as I mentioned, I have not been able to make it match. Surprising, since the geometry of each figure is identical, and the poses are not radically different.

I tried to find a way to export just the pose data out of Marvelous Designer so I could bring it into Character Creator and just apply it to the CC Base Female, but I have not found a way to do that. I can import the MD “Narrow A Pose” avatar and turn it into a humanoid figure, but for some reason, this will not allow me to transfer skin weights to the tunic. I’m guessing the humanoid figure doesn’t have skin weights, and I have not yet figured out how to add them to it.

So now I’m wondering what the shortest path is to the end result that I seek: I’d like to turn this tunic into a piece of conforming clothing in Character Creator, but use the narrow A pose as my starting point so I can retain the good-looking draping.

Any suggestions on the best approach here will be greatly appreciated.

The posture seems to be different from what you had in MD. How did you export avatar from CC for MD?
Better use OBJ > Character with current pose.

Thanks very much for this reply, Rampa. I tried this, but unfortunately, it did not fix the issue. Any other ideas about what might be causing the problem?

Try importing as a prop from the "File>Import" menu, instead of as an accessory. The accessory is already attached and so may shift a bit when you pose the character. Then pose your character into the same pose you used for your clothing template character. You can also carefully pose the character into the clothing using the pose tool if needed.

Once aligned, you can then attach it from the Modify panel (scroll down a bit to find the Attach section) and transfer the skin weights.

I’m encountering a strange problem when I import meshes into Character Creator and turn them into clothing. The meshes import with strangely changed proportions, so they no longer fit the avatar. As an example, I imported this tunic that I made in Marvelous Designer (please see attached screenshots). It was created on the CC3 Female base mesh inside MD, so it should fit perfectly, but upon importing it into Character Creator, it no longer fits. I’ve tried scaling, rotating, and moving it in various combinations, but no amount of manipulation provides a good fit.

(I briefly experimented with sculpting the mesh inside Character Creator, but this to some extent ruins the beautifully realistic draping I achieved in Marvelous Designer, so I’d like to avoid that.)

I’ve tried importing both OBJ and FBX. Also: I textured this in Substance Painter, so I also tried exporting a mesh straight out of that program and importing it, but this did not solve the problem.

Anyone have a guess what might be causing this? I’m hoping I’m just making some beginner’s error that has an easy fix. Many thanks for any help you folks can offer.
