Is there a way to have a character fade in or out.  I'm using the transporter emitter and I'd like the character to fade away.

There may be better ways to do the effect now days but if you're using an NLE I found it a pretty effective method to achieve the effect I was after.

consider how it was done in 1966.. you can film the same scene twice but on 1st video have only background.
2nd video with just the charactor... render this 2 times. one normal with charactor and one as alpha video only.

or just do what i did and animate the charctors  textures to zero, using the effect to mask the imperfections

after looking at this project again all i did was animate the charactor into the frame from above over 2 keyframes
and did the reverse to beam him out. there were 3-4 particle systems going.

i also have projects that i made low poly versions of the charactor (1 texture) and animated a black jpeg in the opacity slot
