Creator Creator 4 and the standalone AccuRig software are designed for bipedal characters so you can't rig four legged animals in those unfortunately. To be able to use a dog in iClone 8 you will need it to be pre-rigged. Alternatively you can purchase a pack which contains domestic dogs like the one below. https://www.reallusion.com/contentstore/csproduct.aspx?contentid=AIC320CIENU050120091229001

How (i.e. in what application) did you create the custom dog? Most 3D programs such as Cinema 4D, Blender, etc. make rigging possible. iClone is only suitable for 2-legged, more or less humanoid characters. If you don't know how to rig your model and it is a one time only situation, you could possible also have somebody else rig it for you.

I feel your frustration. This is one of the things I've been requesting since Iclone 6. Accurig is great, but it's only 80% of what we need. iClone is long overdue for a full rigging toolset, including the ability to create controls as well as bones, with spline rigs and IK setups of all types. I mean if they wanted to compromise, then putting a quadruped rig, bird rig, snake rig and set of wings rig would go a long way towards alleviating those frustrations. I really would like to see a full on rigging toolset in iClone.

Have you made it in Blender? Before exporting make sure to select only the dog mesh and check "export selected" on FBX export settings panel.

That is correct. iClone only imports iProps, which is normal for animals. You may also import through CC as a Creature.
