AutoDiadact....you are AWESOME!!! That did the trick...woohoo! It never occurred to me to even try a Genesis 1 character since I am using Genesis 3 characters.

I can't thank you enough as this has haunted me for a while now. I'm not sure where you live but if you're anywhere in the vicinity of the Pacific Northwest I'm going to treat you to a night of drinks my friend. :)

It sounds like you are doing everything correctly.
Not sure what the problem is, however as workaround you can apply your iclone motion to the original Genesis 1
(should still be in your Daz account library)
Daz studio itself will retarget a saved Genesis 1 .duf motion to G3/8 with minimal adjustment needed.
See this Daz forum thread for details

My workflow is:
1. Export from Daz using the Iclone tpose.duf on a G3F character. Export settings are fbx 2012 binary.
2. Import into 3DXchange as a nonstandard character and saved as a avatar file.
3. Import avatar into Iclone and create animation.
4. Save animation as an imotion file
5. Back in 3DXchange I'll use the original G3F file and import my imotion into the Animation window then Add to Perform.
6. Animation looks perfect at this point
7. Select Hip joint and export BVH with Root settings selected to Hip. Target Tool selected to Custom but have also tried Default.
8. Back in Daz with my G3F character loaded I'll select the G3F character in Scene window, right click and select children with Show Hidden Properties selected in parameters window.
9. Edit>Figure>Lock>Unlock Selected Node
10. Edit>Figure>Limits>Limits Off (rotation)
11. Select Hip  and import the BVH file
12. BVH Import options....only Adjust scene to match file option selected. I've tried to do a clean up in the file node section but it doesn't seem to make any difference.
13. Basically my figure at this point has the usual twisted left arm and hips seem to not rotate properly while the legs and upper body looking like a crack addict on a 5 day binge. (trying to interject some humor into this most frustrating ordeal)

I must be doing something wrong if others here are getting correct results.
Currently using Daz 4.11 but 4.10 is the same.

Hi
My pipeline is based on base  body motion created in iclone and  retargeted to a genesis 1,2,3,8 figure
in 3DX and export BVH to Daz studio,

Can you describe in detail your process and what exact problem you are getting  with the BVH in Daz studio?

Very interesting post here with a lot of useful information. I've been successful and unsuccessful getting animations into Daz using Motionbuilder via fbx and bvh formats. I;ve used many different versions of Daz with the same inconsistent results. I have yet to get a decent bvh animation into Daz 4.10 and 4.11 from Iclone and 3dxchange. Curious if anyone here is currently being successful with the latest 4.11 build?

Also, I've tried every different way I know how to get the iclone bvh animation exported to any version of Daz using the information above. If anyone could do a full tutorial on their successful working animation into Daz I will gladly treat you to a night of pints at your local brew hub...lol! :)

For the movements to be exported from iClone to Daz be flawless and as they are animated in iClone, while exporting from 3dxchange to BVH you need to select Under ADVANCED SETTINGS -> Target Tool Preset: - DEFAULT.https://forum.reallusion.com/uploads/images/4c44a321-caf2-4370-b41c-f4f1.jpg

Was there a resolution to this?

I have limited days to test the iClone7 and 3dxchange trial versions.  So far, I have been foiled at every turn.

- Can't export the BVH back into DAZ.
- Can't get Genesis 8 character into iClone without its arms twisted.

It takes days to get answers on every little thing.

I started by importing a Genesis 3 daz character via 3dxchange into iclone. Everything imported into iclone 7 with no problems. I applied the stand and talk animation from the persona in iclone 7 to my daz character. It performed perfectly in iclone.
Then I clicked on edit in 3dxchange. The Daz character opened flawlessly in 3dxchange. It could play all the animations that came with the Daz Character from iclone7. I exported the BVH files into my test folder (where I put my test stuff).
I opened the the DAZ Studio Beta. Loaded a Gen3 character. Then imported the stand and talk BVH from my test folder. The only button selected is the top one on the options panel in DAZ BVH import panel. Like the way, you have it in your video.
As soon as the BVH finished importing the character flipped face down.
Anyway, I hope this helps you understand what I may have done wrong.
Your suggestions about how I can get the same results as you got will really be appreciated.
Thanks,
Craig
PS
I figured out that I had to export from the hip Gen8 works too. The only thing that is really noticeable is the arms are spread apart too far There is probably some way to fix that. If I get that fixed I will share it with you guys.
Thanks,
Craig

I must be doing something different than you are to get the BVH to work in Daz. I have the latest beta but I still can't get it to play the BVH. Any secrets to your method?

Thanks,
Craig

I'm not sure of what you are doing to get your BVH out, so I can't answer your question. Without knowing how the BVH was created, or how it was exported, then imported --there's no way to address your concerns. A lot of it has to do with those key points. Not just any BVH will do, and DAZ studio doesn't do any re-targeting so if it's not based off the Genesis 3 Skeleton, then it won't apply correctly to the model. Even a Genesis 2 animation needs to be corrected before it can be applied to a Genesis 3 skeleton. So how you did it is just as important as the result.
