This is a very good looking and well done tutorial, Mike. :) Thanks for sharing.
Alas, I work with Blender, so I'm hoping that there will be some similarities in the UI that will allow me to adapt this tutorial to Blender usage. :)

Hi folks!
I have not been very frequent to the forum. I am sorry having abandoned you all!

OritentLove:

The Cutposture is actually an animation file in standard MAX format so it is not version dependent.

It seems you are forgetting to select ALL the RL bones before you load the CutPosture file.

Anyhow, CUtPosture is just that; a posture! The idea is to place the character body in a way you can trace a vertical line and it divides the mesh into proportional front and rear parts. It is difficult but once you have the body posing the right way, when you slice, the two "shells" should be almost the same amount of polygons. This will make a better mapping template to design clothing on them.

IF someone is having problem accomplishing the task, check a post above where you can see Trinity well done, by Dulce, showing the tutorial works!

When you say the skin does not follow at iClone it sounds like you are forgetting to do the "Convert To Skin" step, when using Skin Wrap.

I hope you find this explanations useful. I will review the tutorial and see if I can add more detail in another one.

Glad to be here!

Mike

Today I made many tries on this tutorial. The biggest trouble I found is this: I followed the tutorial step by step (I converted it into a skin, etc.) but every time I arrive at the end, the new mesh doesn't follow the skin layer. In fact in iClone It stands still and can't even be moved by the mouse. In the video belowe you can see the result: :(
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yQYZR4Q2NkI
(the character laughs because he's making fun of me. LOL)

And to say my first trouble (I think it may be somehow good to know): the CutPosition doesn't work on the 3dsMax I use (2010). In fact you can see it from these two shots belowe, where the first one is the initial Reallusion position and the second is after having applied the CutPosition:
Anyway, the problem is already solved as I found that the file is an animation where at the end the character gets the T pose. So I started building the mesh on the last frame.

Save Link should work fine. There's another way, though, if it's not working for you.

When you click on the links, and they open inside the browser, go to File - Save As and simply save it where you want. It's the same as right-clicking and downloading for these two files.

It worked!!! :w00t: Thanks so much Keith!!

Hi Mike. I was trying to learn this wonderful tutorial, but I have a first problem, may you help me?

My problem is that I can't download the 'CutPosture' and the 'Black&white jpg' because when I click the right button of my mouse it doesn't tell me save object, but only 'save link' or 'open link'.
This is a very big problem, because I need that posture.

Regards

Michela

Hi DigiMagic!

It seems you must weld the edges between upper and lower PRIOR to slicing the mesh in two.

You should not alter the mesh too much by optimization, as it will make it not skin properly. Actually adding polygons at joint areas can make it skin MUCH better.

You are using MAX so you will find the checkers map right at the Architectural material folder!

Follow the tutorial closer as it seems you are missing some details.

Write to me at meaparicio@inadep.com

Thank you for posting!

Hi Apparition,

Great Tutorial! Thank you for sharing your experience.

Unfortunately I was not able to get a satisfying result. The posture animation did not work (nothing happend when I loaded it) and I tryed to pose the character by myself in the same way you did but I really don't know if I did it in a proper way.
Furthermore it was not possible for me to weld the edges. The number of the vertexes only reduced when the value was at 8000 and that caused the issue you can see in the picture.

I would very much appreciate if you could help me and maybe tell me what went wrong:)

In this picture you can see the result of my efforts.

Thanks a lot!
digiMagic

Dear dear stooges,...

Just to answer your other question...If things haven't changed, you need to apply as a CCD Developer to get the MAX Female07 Templates. Part of the application requires you send some textured characters using current iCone characters such as Violet to demonstrate your talent.

Thanks.
