That was a much more professional tutorial than those I have seen on Reallusion or YouTube as yet. Well done!

Amateur tutorials take the medieval spell recipe approach: you do this, you do that, you do the other, turn around three times , clap your hands and the demon appears!

That approach may impress the beginners as slick, but it does not teach very well. You do not know why you are doing the things you are doing. You don't know what has gone wrong if anything goes wrong. You cannot recover from errors except by going back to the beginning and starting all over again.

What I suggest is needed is an approach that keeps looking forward and back - tell the people what you are going to do, do it, and tell them what you've done. This applies in mebbe three layers - at the beginning, in the main sections, and for each of the individual tasks.

I don't know whether you expected reactions like mine - but when I first watched the video I was disappointed as it seemed to be talking about skin rather than cloth. Not until you got to the point of talking about the PUSH 40 function and parameter did I begin to see where you were going.

And leave the chihuahuas in - it makes a good running gag.

I appreciate your input.   Your suggestions are to be considered but I would like you to think about several things.

The Post title clearly says you are going to be making clothing. Right?  Sometimes we skip titles.  I agree!  But it certainly is well said at the beginning. ;)

In this case I wanted to put together a one piece tutorial which would be revealing to those already immersed in MAX developing and having certain doubts about how to go.  Going at a swing pace, from beginning to end, with turn around and repeats, explanations, etc, would make this tutorial about 1 or two hours long!

But I trusted the Shockwave Flash Object video, as you can go back as many times as you want and repeat any part as to be the teacher's assistant for those rascal students which usually don't pay a lot of attention! :D

I liked the "clap the thing" comment!  Actually I would like you to do it!  Follow the tutorial, do the thing, clap at the end and you will have several "skin layers" or clothing layers with different push factors, anyway you would like to call them, to easily paint textures on them and make clothing.  

Just as the title says.   I am sorry if you got confused at the beginning but I am sure you will catch up!

That is an excellent tutorial Mike, It has really given me an insight into the development side of iClone and Max tools, and increased my knowledge on how the magic you do, is achieved. Thanks.

I will be watching this tutorial quite a few more times, as it really is informative and interesting and you made it understandable, not like a lot of Max tutorials I have watched, which usually bore the pants off me.

Please do some more, podcasts would be a good idea too.

Give the doggies a big rub on their heads for me :).

I eventuall would like design some avatars and create clothing. I would like to take this tutorial as I'm a new user to 3dMax, but I don't have the G3Female07.max  file. I looked in the Developer Center and I'm not sure about this but do I have to apply to get the G3Female07.max file. I clicked on the apply link and I seemed to have received an error message. Does anyone know what a certified artist is and what it i need to do get certified?

Or can I get the G3Female07.max file without becoming a certified artist?

Just to answer your other question...If things haven't changed, you need to apply as a CCD Developer to get the MAX Female07 Templates. Part of the application requires you send some textured characters using current iCone characters such as Violet to demonstrate your talent.
