I finally figured out how to get a video and some music into the Magix program. I also managed to put a Narrator voice over the top of everything. Now I am working on a Title to place over the video while it is running.
It looks like I may be using Magix. (Not that I managed to get the book punched on the right side of the paper. It was reading backwards before.)

Okay I got ya. The Sony Vegas version I had on trial was the $600 one, I wanted 5.1 audio; all those new versions I've never tried because it seemed like at the time only the Vegas had it. The other problem I had was converting my videos to DVD, only the Sony Vegas let me adjust the video rates and other characteristics, but on the lower price Sony authoring program it was fixed and the videos in what I was shooting looked like crap and had to many artifacts for me. The Sony Vegas has a huge learning curve a few years back. The price tag keeps me away now. And even with the $600 price tag, it does not let you make 3D Blu-Rays, which you can render on iClone, side by side or over and under; I don't like that cyan / red glasses 3D's, that iClone can let you render, but I tried it just to see how it looks. It works, but the colors look bad. Sony wouldn't let you buy the DVD authoring version that produced the best looking DVD's with the other versions, only the $600 Vegas.

I made a Mistake!!!
I am not looking at Sony Vegas. I am looking at Sony Movie Studio.
I am comparing that with Magix Movie Edit
Both have a version just under $100 and that is what I am comparing.
Update: The car seemed to have a fuse that was not seated well enough. the guy moved it around a bit and the lights worked. That's one thing off my todo list.

I've used SONY Vegas for a few years now. I have Adobe CS6, before the Cloud version and it's still fine, but I just love the speed of editing in Vegas and all it's great audio filters. For me it's the "Swiss-Army-Knife" of NLE's. If you can get the Vegas suite version it will come with HitFilm I think which is awesome:D

I have a trial of Sony Vegas and Magix on the computer now. I just hope I can get something made to try them out before the trial runs out on them.
It will be a few more days until I have something to play with. Hopefully.

I actually found sony super easy to use and learn....BUT it has a lot of options, plug in and features that allow you to really get into advanced editing ....and That's where the learning curve gets steep.....but for editing ? pfft...stuper easy .....you drag the clip in, point to the spot you want to cut ...hit s ...done..

Now if you want to get into advanced masking and rotoscoping ...better get some coffee lol!

Ken, with the Sony Vegas software what I loved about it that no other software seemed to have was it's menu functions. I wanted to make a tour video that if you got to a street corner, it was to give you a choice of going left, right, forward or to turn around. Only Sony Vegas gave me those options to select multiple buttons, to go to any film clip on the timeline at any point. Others just give me continue or loop, unless I missed something. Also Sony is not that easy and has a high learning curve. With Pinnacle and the others, I was limited to their menu screens and buttons. With Magix, I could use my own screen photos, move and create my own buttons, pix in pix, and set where I wanted video looping in the menus to start or just be fixed. Titles were easy, I can change the colors, including each letter. To make it easy I just pick one of the ones they have, and change the text. The text choices are normal or 3D. I usually add a black outline so you can see the text better with most backgrounds. I haven't used any of their menu backgrounds, I substituted my own photos. You can edit your background photo for the menus, and add text and put buttons next to them. The buttons, and chapter or title frames can be moved and resized to your liking in the menu screen. Like you I'm retired, and I want things to be easy to remember and to work with. Two things I never liked about Sony Vegas and Adobe was the prices, and Adobe didn't include 5.1 audio when I tried it out.

I am downloading a trial of Magix to see if I can figure out how to make Titles and Credits with that program.
So far I seem to have a mental block on that issue with Sony and Pinnacle though Pinnacle was what I used before to make them. For some reason I cannot do it this time. (Old Age again??)
I need to get busy on a field that is in a drought and some country with a drought for now using iClone6.

Ken, I've used and tried them all; Adobe, Sony, Pinnacle and Corel who at one time was Ulead. It's a long story but I needed 5.1 audio, and I'm now looking to make two versions of my iClone movie, one in 3D after I finish the original. With iClone it's easy to render in 3D if you don't want to mess with the focal points you won't have to do anything. I use the side by side method. I've been making and selling video DVD's since they first were available, then Blu~Rays. Video Quality is more important to me than special effects or compression. A few years ago after being frustrated with the output quality I got from Pinnacle and Ulead (Corel), I searched and found Magix. My Blu~Rays looked like what I saw from the camera, no artifacts or dull colors from AVCHD to MPG2 conversion that Pinnacle and Corel gave me, and Magix (MPG4 output) didn't want $10,000 (Sony) to put 3D on a Blu~Ray. I always bought the Magix Plus version to get the 5.1 audio. Early last year I cross graded for their Video Pro X 6, because the price was right. The Movie Edit Pro Plus, has everything I need, and I found is no real big difference than the Video Pro X, except it has more color adjustment features, which would have been great for my older video cameras. My newest cam, has great color and white balance and is not needed so far. Go to the Magix site and download the free trial which ever one that fits your budget. I had no trouble putting the plus version on this computer, after putting their Video Pro on the other. They even come with sound sync so you could sync the audio, to another video track. That would be great to have split scenes in sync taken with two different cameras in clone, in two different places or rooms. I check and try the other free trial video editing software when they come out with a new version, and so far I find that nothing has made me want to change. I love it. Now if I can get something with 7.1 audio, I'll might go for that, but only if the video quality doesn't suffer.
