Thanks to you All for your answers!
I use Speccy as well as CPUID HW Monitor (also free) to retrieve the temperature values. The gpu meter gadget I will get and test over the weekend.
Enjoy the weekend, Gerhard

Sifr (11/22/2014)
SchachMatt (11/21/2014) indeed, I made a change from "let the application decide" to "advanced settings" but switched back now in the NVidea SystemControl; as far as I see now it does not make much of a difference and there are no further settings made by me;
which "process monitor" do have in mind?Try the widget on the sidebar on Win 7. It's called gpu monitor, I miss this in Win 8. http://addgadgets.com/gpu_meter/ That's the one I used as well. Also miss it. I'm running 8.1 now.

SchachMatt (11/21/2014) - the fans are clean as well as the PC´s interior
- my latest experience: the energy options of W7 have an impact on CPU temp: - energy saving mode: ~ 40°C - balanced mode: ~ 50°C - high power mode: 70° up to sporatically 100°
I checked Intel: the 4790 has a max. operating temp of 72,72°C and an updated temp. management which reduces CPU´s load when temp goes up to 100°C which is prevented by the fans. 150°C seems to be a real critical value!
I have not experienced any forced shut-down sofar; but for sure, higher temps reduce the CPU´s life-span. For the moment I use Windows 7 energy saving mode.
1) W7 Power Options, here, are Default; Balanced Mode. 2) Max CPU temperatures & Fan speeds here, are controlled by ASUS MOBO. CPU Temperature & Fan speeds can be customised via ASUS MOBO Probe Program. Anything above the Default Maximum will display a red warning. My Settings are set at Default. 3) No AMD/ATI GPU Control Panel Priority Settings here re; Rampa's Post, that I'm aware of. But there are in Windows OS Settings. The Default is; "Let Windows Decide". 4) I repeat my first Post that, IMO, iClone Program "decides" when it's using CPU/GPU. 5) Ensuring that all Settings above are set at Default, "Might" fix the problem.

You might want to watch a process monitor and see if iClone is using your GPU. It should be using it quite a lot!
Check in the control panel of your GPU to see if it's set to something custom that is preventing iClone from utilizing it. I keep my settings on "let the program decide", but I know that you can set custom settings for individual programs.

SchachMatt (11/21/2014) Thanks, Colour, for your response, Well, I think I need to get deeper into the cooling topic. Greetings from Germany, Gerhard40 -50 is within acceptable limits. 70 & certainly not 90, aren't. Your CPU/MOBO should have a safety cut-out that shuts-down you PC, when those temperatures are reached. Excessive dust can also cause overheating.
