Hi Rampa, I'll hang onto W7 for as long as possible. What you say about W8.1 sounds good, although I would prefer to wait for W9, hopefully it will be an improvement on it's predecessor. :) I don't know if it's viable to have W7 put back on to a W8 Laptop, that would be another option I would consider.

Hi, Animagic I'm sure there will always be questions as long as there are 'iClone anomalies' to keep me thinking. :w00t:

Windows 8.1 lets you completely get rid of that "Metro" layer. You can even bypass it on boot, going right to desktop. It is faster than Win 7 at booting.
If you already have a copy of 7, there probably is no reason to upgrade yet.

I agree with colour, stick with Windows 7. Windows 8 has no particular advantage for iClone. It looks like any other release of the OS is kind of blah... XP OK, Vista blah, Windows 7 OK++, Windows 8 blah...:D An up-to-date graphics card is more important than the latest version of the OS. BTW, to convert skp models for use in iClone 5, 3DXchange 4 is sufficient, except that it's picky about the version of Sketchup the model was saved in. The incompatibility is when you want to do something with the converted models later in 3DXchange. That said, 3DXchange 5 has some useful additional features, but for basic conversion work 3DXchange will do fine.

W9Development has only just started. So you're probably looking at a few years until the Release Candidate.
Hello , W9 RTM in a few months , probably Octobre and RC in april 2015 :) (non official source ) .

Hi Colour, I didn't realise that W9 could be so far off, with so many complaining about W8, even with it's update. Thanks for the Tutorial Links, I'm not doing to bad with iClone4, but there's always something more to learn. :)

"Hopefully W9 will be well recieved and that I can wait till then. W9 Development has only just started. So you're probably looking at a few years until the Release Candidate. Useful info; You'll find a lot of Video Tutorials by Reallusion & Forum Members. However the question of "But where do I start?" still remains. IMO, the best way to start (Others may differ), is to go through Stuckon3D's Free Video Tutorials, which cover iClone Basics. These are based on iClone 4. Warlord's Purchase Tutorial Book also based on iC4 but with iC5 new Features added, goes into the basics in more depth, with his own Content provided for individual Project-based Tutorials. 1) Stuckon3D Here; https://forum.reallusion.com/Topic31003-33-1.aspx 2) Warlord: Here; http://www.iclonebeginnersguide |

Hi Colour, yes iC4 appears to be runnning ok on a W7 - nothing special - i3 laptop. I expect newer versions of iClone will require something better. Hopefully W9 will be well recieved and that I can wait till then. Thanks again for your help, just think, one day I may have all the answers. :w00t:
