Welcome to the Forum, Heatseeker :)

Only Reallusion Current Program Versions are available for Download.

IMO, 3DXChange 5.5 (Current Version) isn't Compatible with iC4.3 because it has a number of New Features over 3DXChange 4.3. Eg; you can Launch Avatars Into 3DXChange 5.5 directly from iC5.5 (Current Version) & back again, for Modification etc.

Your best bet would be to look at what's new in both Programs.

I'm afraid it's another of Reallusion's expensive "Gotchas". :ermm: Quite a few complaints about it.

The above being said, I find 3DXChange a "must have" Tool for my Particular Workflow. It's probably paid for itself with the amount of Free Google 3D Warehouse Content I've Downloaded.

iC6 might be in the very early stages of Development. I'd wait until that's announced at which time you might be able to Upgrade to iC5 & get iC6 Free when it's released. That's what's happened in the past.

Anyone-else?

Thanks for that Colour,

I'm disappointed that 3D exchange 4 is unavailable. I would say your term 'Gotcha' is very apt, this doesn't endear me to 'reallusion'. For the time being I'll just have to do what I can as it stands. I now have no trust for Reallusion products and it's unlikely that I would purchase from them in the future.

Thanks again.

Well........................I've Googled; Reallusion 3DXChange 4.31, where you'll see there are a selection of "Unofficial" Downloads.

What you do isn't recommended by me & you do-so at your own risk.

I really don't understand your disappointment. iClone 5 has been on the market for 2 years, and 3DXchange 5 has been available for over 18 months.

Can you mention one company that stills offers "old" software after investing a large amount of money in R&D for a new version?

Hi ,

You can find 3dx4 :

Whatever companies do or don't do doesn't necessarilly make it right. Perhaps those of us who have iClone4, and are happy with it, don't want to pay for an upgrade at this time. Tell me why I should, rather than have to, and then I may agree with you.

Continuing to have some older, perhaps 'integral' software available should be no problem and shows respect for their customers.

Thanks for that Sen, that's great. Now maybe I can stop being 'ratty'.:satisfied:

Reallusion is not a gigantic company and making older versions available also implies an obligation of support, which may not be feasible. I have to disagree with the "gotcha" statement, implying ill-will on the part of Reallusion.

Thanks for all the info sw00000p, at this time, I would be happy to just import things from 3D Warehouse. I hope that 3DXchange4 standard would be okay for this. Once I become more confident I shall 'branch out', and yes, will eventually move on to iClone5.

I would just like to thank everybody again for their valuable help and advice. :)

Hi, could someone help me with a few questions please. I'm using iclone4 pro and wondered if I need to install SketchUp to use 3Dxchange 4, when I view 3D Warehouse models it says - Download to SketchUp....

Will iclone4 work with windows 8.

When I move on to iclone5 will 3Dxchange 4 still be compatable and will all my iclone4 content still work.

Thankyou for any help and advice you can offer. :)

1) No. You can Import Google 3D Warehouse Models into 3DXcvahnge in 2 ways;

a) By downloading the SKP File to your Desktop & Importing it into 3DXChange from there.

b) By accessing 3D Warehouse via 3DXChange, when the SKP File will Download to your Desktop & automatically Import into 3DXChgange, which Converts it to an iProp, for Import into iClone.

There's a Reallusion Video Tutorial re; how to do the above. I'll Post a Link, if & when I can find it.

ADDED - Link; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Efdp4NYH5Xw

2) iC4 isn't Certified for W8. However, since it works ok with W7, it might with W8. An OS to be avoided at all costs, IMO.

3) 3DXchange 4 isn't compatible with iC5. You would need to Upgrade to 3DXChange 5

4) iC4 Content can be carried over to iC5, by Copying iC4 Content Folders & Pasting them into iC5 corresponding Folders.

BTW - iC6 is currently under Development. Possible Release Date last quarter 2014. For which you'd probably need 3DXChange 6.

IMO, you're better-off by sticking with what you have & waiting for iC6, since it will have a much improved customisable User Interface, etc..

Thanks for that information Colour, I think that waiting for iClone6 and 3Dexchange6 is a good idea. Am I right in thinking that iClone4 would need to be uninstalled before loading up a new version?

BTW, I don't want Windows8 but I assume it will be unavoidable, all new computers have it.

Thanks again for taking the time to respond, I wish you well. :)

1) You can keep iC4 Program installed. It's probably wise to do-so, anyway, until any iC6 bugs are ironed-out.

2) There should be a special Upgrade Price for iC6, for existing iClone Users.

3) I would defer purchasing a new PC until iC6 is released, to see what it's Hardware requirements are. Then Post for advice for a suitable PC Hardware Spec to Run iC6. By that time Microsoft might have got it's act together & issued further W8 Updates, although they are alleged to be already Developing W9.

If you're Running iC4 ok on W7? MS W7 Critical Updates are supported until 2020. Hotfixes support ends in Jan 2015. I have a W7 Custom built PC & will defer Upgrading/Downgrading to W8/9 when W7 Critical Updates Support ends.

All MS Windows XP Support was going to end in April 2014. However, I think they've now extended the Critical Update support until April 2015. Hotfix support will end in April 2014.

Hi Colour, yes iC4 appears to be runnning ok on a W7 - nothing special - i3 laptop. I expect newer versions of iClone will require something better. Hopefully W9 will be well recieved and that I can wait till then.

Thanks again for your help, just think, one day I may have all the answers. :w00t:

W9  Development has only just started. So you're probably looking at a few years until the Release Candidate.

Useful info;

You'll find a lot of Video Tutorials by Reallusion & Forum Members.

However the question of "But where do I start?" still remains.

IMO, the best way to start (Others may differ), is to go through Stuckon3D's Free Video Tutorials, which cover iClone Basics. These are based on iClone 4.

Warlord's Purchase Tutorial Book also based on iC4 but with iC5 new Features added, goes into the basics in more depth, with his own Content provided for individual Project-based Tutorials.

Hi Colour, I didn't realise that W9 could be so far off, with so many complaining about W8, even with it's update.

Thanks for the Tutorial Links, I'm not doing to bad with iClone4, but there's always something more to learn. :)

Hello ,

W9 RTM in a few months , probably Octobre and RC in april 2015 :) (non official source ) .

I agree with colour, stick with Windows 7. Windows 8 has no particular advantage for iClone. It looks like any other release of the OS is kind of blah... XP OK, Vista blah, Windows 7 OK++, Windows 8 blah...:D

An up-to-date graphics card is more important than the latest version of the OS.

BTW, to convert skp models for use in iClone 5, 3DXchange 4 is sufficient, except that it's picky about the version of Sketchup the model was saved in. The incompatibility is when you want to do something with the converted models later in 3DXchange. That said, 3DXchange 5 has some useful additional features, but for basic conversion work 3DXchange will do fine.

So do we... But, by trying to solve problems, we get clarity! :w00t: So keep those questions coming! :D

Windows 8.1 lets you completely get rid of that "Metro" layer. You can even bypass it on boot, going right to desktop. It is faster than Win 7 at booting.

If you already have a copy of 7, there probably is no reason to upgrade yet.
By Heatseeker - 11 Years Ago
Hi, Animagic

I'm sure there will always be questions as long as there are 'iClone anomalies' to keep me thinking. :w00t:

By Heatseeker - 11 Years Ago
Hi Rampa,

I'll hang onto W7 for as long as possible. What you say about W8.1 sounds good, although I would prefer to wait for W9, hopefully it will be an improvement on it's predecessor. :)

I don't know if it's viable to have W7 put back on to a W8 Laptop, that would be another option I would consider.
