An automatic save for projects similar to adobe premier pro would be good. So that perhaps every 10 minutes or so the project is automatically Saved.

Awesome idea, BUT!!! Make sure there are settings and the auto save uses a temp name or a [ *(1).filename]. I often load a base project, edit, animate, and save as a differnent project. The same base project may be saved into 4 or more different scene projects for a single animation. It would suck to lose my base because of auto save. This is a much needed feature as I have lost hours of work due to a crash more than once. But it needs to be thought out. Perhaps even an "autosave" folder in the customs directory where all autosave projects are stored.

Maybe a message in that little message panel at the bottom right of your screen, saying "Backup is needed" should pop-up every ten minutes to remind you that "CTRL-S" should be done now? This would be a simple solution. It would help those who can't remember to backup regularly. ****************************************************************** If you just get in the habit of pressing CTRL+S every few minutes you can create your own automatic backups. Use the "Grandfather - Father- Son" method. 1st Backup "Grandfather" 2nd Backup "Father" 3rd Backup "Son" Then start all over again at the top. If you want an "Automatic" backup, be prepared to stop when you are not ready, so it can do what you can do anyway (CTRL+S). Considering this is not just a video editor and has a lot to compile when "automatically" backing up. *******************************************************************

my music software has a nice auto save system - it has the regular save function - but creates a back up folder for each project that auto saves in case of crashes. so if you hit save file - you have File 1 if you crash - you have a series of bak_file_1.fil in your back up folder with the time stamps. so you get the best of both worlds and when you are done with the project you have all the auto save files in one directory - easy to delete / clean up after you are finished with the project.

This has been requested many times. Thus far no response from RL.

+1 My NLE software (Pinnacle Studio v16) auto-saves continuously. I'm not sure exactly how it works, but it seems to write to the disk constantly to some temporary file. If it locks up and you have to kill the process, or the power goes out and your computer shuts off, the next time you launch the software you are given three options, something like this: - Resume editing your last-open project
- Open the last saved copy of your recent project
- Launch without opening anything
I have had excellent success with the "Resume" feature. I have had iClone 5.3 lock up on me a couple times already while key-framing some character animations, and I had to use the Task Manager to kill iClone. That "resume" feature would have been wonderful.
iClone 7... Character Creator... Substance Designer/Painter... Blender... Audacity... Desktop (homebuilt) - Windows 10, Ryzen 9 3900x CPU, GTX 1080 GPU (8GB), 32GB RAM, Asus X570 Pro motherboard, 2TB SSD, terabytes of disk space, dual monitors. Laptop - Windows 10, MSI GS63VR STEALTH-252, 16GB RAM, GTX 1060 (6GB), 256GB SSD and 1TB HDD

This is a must. Having had Iclone crash several time since I gegan working with it just three weeks ago is very frustrating. At least when Sketchup crashes there is a backup stored so I don't need to start over.

Like Viking, I use Pinnacle Studio and the Auto Save Feature is a life saver (I've used this software since before this was added and remember the frustrating crashes). However, now if you over tax the program and it crashes, a restart immediately gives you the "Resume" function which works 99.999% of the time. But....it is a feature people have been asking for as long as I can remember and maybe it's not something that is easy to add to this type of software, as we still don't have it. Thanks for the Control "S" tip.

In my experience, saving in iClone 5 is most faster than in previous versions of iClone, so I'm not too concerned about workflow interruptions. And it should obviously be implemented as an option to accommodate those who prefer not to use it. With IC 5.4 being so awesome :w00t:, our demands are modest...:ermm:

There's a distinction between AutoSave & InstantSave Features in NLE Programs. AutoSave is User selectable, automatically Loading your Current Project when Launching a Program. InstantSave isn't User selectable, automatically taking Snapshots of your Project Edits every few seconds. Pinnacle Studio has both of the above Features. InstantSave was introduced with S10, which was re-programmed to use Avid Liquid Render Engine, which had the InstantSave Feature..
