can you fade in/fade out between switching cameras ? And/Or create a gradual transition between cameras?

Sometimes I find it's a bit abrupt switching between cameras, or I'd like to fade out and back in again to create an illusion of time between scenes

I know I could do it the hard way, add a scene with no light onto the timeline and allow the transition to create a similar effect, but surely there's an easier way to fade in/fade out ?
