What is it that I did wrong? Is an 8 min video just too much to do under one iProject file? I want to do whatever I can to prevent this absolute debacle in the future. This is just too much.
You will need to talk with the developers and figure out why it happened this time, until thats nailed down its just guessing ... sorry

@dante1st - yeah, an 8 minute iclone video is just harsh on memory, i was surprised you could render at all to be honest. I personally like to edit a lot so I usually do small 3 second shots myself. but 8 minutes ....kudos to you for taking it that far !! hehe

i've read a lot about CINELERRA - but all the linux software looks so windows 95'ish - and i've heard that with linux you really have to know a certain level of programming to roll with it. seems more like a techie thing than an artists thing.
Ho yeah back to command prompt, and they will tell you it never crashes .. well you try fix it when it does ...

yeah, see ? i learned about that stuff through music.....the guys that knew how to calculate algorithms for sophisticated equipment - couldn't make a hot dance track if their life depended on it ....I learned a lot from them but now in general i want to spend more time creating than calculating - i could go there ...i've done it for other people but it just kills the creativity. the biggest set back is watching some no tech guy that can't work a computer get drunk make up ideas tell me what to do while i had to wrestle with equipment and settings ...and they got rich. ...nooo thank you i like the easy buttons ...not that i'd be dead without em

If I were 25 years younger Linux might have my interest, now I just want software to work, though not in the apple Mac style, I also want to be able to rip my system apart when needed. there is a limit:D

I did it, mainly as I wanted to say "Yeah I use Linux" it crashed about 2 days in and needed total reinstall. I gave up because I can not pronounce half of the distributions titles and if you think this forum can be tetchy at times try Linux forums, the people in there are like Swooop on acid ... No offence to Swooop.

there's actually nothing wrong with it - it's a fun gig to get that deep into it ...I just want o be an artist though...making up stuff is a job all it's own that can get just as technical on a different level. There just isn't enough time in life to master everything, not that i can't master something, i just have more fun making up stuff than calculating stuff.

dante1st (5/9/2012) Ok I have one last question for now, and I appreciate all the help so far, but HOW DO I PREVENT THIS in the future????
What is it that I did wrong? Is an 8 min video just too much to do under one iProject file? I want to do whatever I can to prevent this absolute debacle in the future. This is just too much.I usually split a film up in scenes of around one minute, just to be on the safe side, and also to see some intermediary results to inspire me...:w00t: I also render as image sequences, which gives a lot of files, but not one huge file. I'm not a developer but what might be the problem is that iClone for some reason ran out of temp space during rendering although with today's disk sizes this doesn't sound too likely. Or, since this is a large project, it may use extra RAM during rendering that isn't available, although in that case it's more likely for iClone to crash. You could still split your project up by trying to render shorter sections and then piece them together. One way or the other, I hope you get it sorted.

I'm so stoked, you guys won't believe it, but I used Windows Movie Maker and compressed that 35GB raw movie file into a 314MB (megabytes!!!) WMV file in under an hour, with NO NOTICEABLE LOSS OF QUALITY!!!! After all that drama, here is the finished product! Thanks to all, I couldn't have done it without the knowledge and insight.
